Poem Review by Andrew Angus Title of Poem: Ghost Whispers Written by: Jill A. Terry Source: Shadows of My Soul (2004) Rating: 4 laurels (out of 5 laurels) Jill Terry's poem "Ghost Whispers" is a free verse poem about what happens to us when we die. It is a poem about paranormal phenomenon. The poet wonders where the soul goes after death: "The soul that is released When death falls upon us To what dimension is it released....." Death is such a mysterious phenomenon. Different religions have different ideas on what happens to the soul when a person dies. The poet wonders if the soul can return back to its love ones: "To retouch those it loved and left To embrace them at another's hand To make the motions without them being aware" The poem touched me because it reminds me of my favorite movie "Ghost" which won the Oscars in 1987. In this movie, the ghost played by Partrick Swayze wants to communicate and embrace his loved one left behind played by Demi Moore. . The poem's paranormal theme is quite similar to the movie's paranormal phenomenon. |
