UNDER CONSTRUCTION....LAH

I'm born here - right smack in the capital - Kuala Lumpur.

What I'll do is write about the tourisy stuff & also about some places to visit which gives you an insight into the lives of Malaysians - these places are of course not on your everyday travel brochures.

PLACES TO VISIT....THINGS TO DO

OFF THE BEATEN TRACK

Visit Peter Ho for interesting gifts.

NIght markets - Bangsar (a suburb in KL) has a thriving weekend night market every Sundays. Starts at about 5 p.m. and wraps up around 9:30 p.m. A whole street teeming with delights - from vegetable, pirated CD's, hair accesories, local fruits, local food (asam laksa, rojak, tauhu bakar, steambot, lemang). And when you're all walked out, there's a whole road full of bars for a quick gulp.

THINGS TO BUY

I'd suggest a coffee table book  - My favorite is Kuala Lumpur Sketchbook - available at major bookstores (MPH, Times or Kinokuniya - KLCC)

Cards with sketches of Malaysian life & traditional homes (kampung) - you can get these from this store in Central Market on the ground floor called _____. The cards are at RM3 each. You could frame these cards.

Fridge Magnets / T-shirts - Found in abundant at Central Market. One cart in particular had t-shirts on best buy for RM10 and 2 fridge magnets for RM10. This cart is located right next to the Information counter. It's a blue-ish cart.

Take home the flavours of Malaysia. Walk into any supermarket (grocery store) and you'll find ready made curry paste from satay sauce, black pepper chicken to honey chicken sauce. Makes for a yummy treat !!!
