PROFILE Since moving from Sheffield to North Yorkshire 8 years ago, Mark Gilroy has quickly established himself as one of York's premier entertainers. Raised on a diverse musical diet ranging from Bob Marley to Bruce Springsteen, Mark developed a naturally eclectic taste and this is evident in his performances. Look out for his acoustic take on The Cranberries' 'Linger' or his soulful interpretation of the Eagles' epic 'Hotel California'. His personal musical influences include Elton John, Stevie Wonder & Aerosmith, amongst many others. In his spare time Mark enjoys listening to anything from Etta James to Chili Peppers to Missy Elliot - get the idea? Mark's earliest live public performance was a rendition of the Guns 'N' Roses classic 'Sweet Child Of Mine' aged just 11! Whilst studying at high school, Mark took his keyboard and began playing in restaurants in Sheffield aged 16. He gained a residency at the then Sheffield Moat House, which eventually led to an appearance on Michael Barrymore's 'My Kind Of Music' TV show. Mark continued to perform after moving to York to study for a degree in psychology. Here he successfully auditioned for a part in a 'manufactured pop band', who subsequently performed to an audience of 3,000 at York's Woodstook music festival. Mark currently lives a double life....working full time for an occupational psychology company in York, whilst travelling the country performing for a variety of audiences & occasions. |
