More Than That Chapter 7 - In Love? No Way! (Part 1) |

Sarah stared at her best friend unblinkingly after she told her the dream she had. Arlet just sat there, in front of her in their kitchen, waiting for Sarah to say something. Then, Sarah burst out with the giggles. Arlet looked at her, in complete shock over her reaction. “What’s so funny?” She asked somewhat agitated. “You.” Was the simple reply back. “What?” “You.” “Why?” “Because you are so completely clueless.” “Excuse me?” Arlet responded with wide eyes. “You are clueless. I can’t believe you don’t get it.” Sarah replied, then taking a sip out of her coffee. “What do you mean I’m clueless? Clueless about what? What do I not get?” She asked irritably. “You like Nick. Duh.” Sarah laughed at her friends facial expression. “I do not like Nick!” Arlet said loudly. “Well, not in that way, at least.” “Oh don’t even go there. You know it. It’s so painfully obvious. You like Nick.” “No, I don’t.” “Yes, you do.” “No I don’t!” “Yes, you do.” “No I don’t!” “Okay! You’re right, you don’t like Nick.” Arlet shot her a triumphant look. She took a drink out of her water. “You’re in love with him.” Arlet spit out her water “What?!” “You’re in love with him.” Sarah repeated, smiling and wiping some of the water near her. Arlet stared at her friend, dumbfounded. She couldn’t believe what she just said. Me, in love with a guy I’ve only met a few months ago? she asked herself. The only time she spent any time with him was the first night they met. Ever since then, they’ve only talked on the phone. No way! she continued to say to herself. “I can not believe you just said that.” Arlet said quietly, still in shock of Sarah’s words. Sarah smiled even bigger. “You know it’s true. Don’t even try to deny it. You know you’re in love with him and he’s in love with you.” Arlet gaped at her. “You are psycho. I can’t possibly be in love with him. We’ve known each other only for a few months. I barely know him.” “You know enough to fall in love with him though,” “I can not believe we are actually discussing this. There is nothing to discuss. I’m not in love with him and he’s most certainly not in love with me. Hands down. Period. No further discussion.” Arlet said slapping her hand down on the hard counter. “Again, you are so clueless. I mean, how could you not be? All you do is talk about Nick all day. Oh Nick this. Nick that. Nick told me. Nick said and you seem to keep going on and on. You’re listening to the Backstreet Boys more and all I hear is that on song he sings. That solo song...what’s it called again?” “I Need You Tonight.” Arlet answered sheepishly. She was blushing fiercely. “See? I rest my case.” “Whatever. I’m not in love with him so there.” Sarah rolled her eyes. At that moment, the phone rang. Sarah answered it. “Hello...Oh, hi!...I’m good, you?...That’s good....Yeah, she’s right here. Hold on one sec.” Sarah covered the mouthpiece and turned to look at Arlet. She gave her a sly smile. “It’s Nick.” She told her, pushing the receiver towards Arlet. Arlet blushed even deeper as she reached for the phone. “Hello?” “Hi.” Nick said, his voice slightly nervous. “Hey, could I call you back in a few minutes? I’m in the kitchen right now uh...eating.” Arlet asked him. Sarah giggled. “Yeah, sure. I’ll talk to you soon then. Bye.” They hung up the phone. Sarah giggled harder. “Ha. Ha. Ha. That’s right. Laugh all you want.” Arlet said sarcastically at Sarah who was giggling uncontrollably. She exited the kitchen and headed to her room. Sarah’s giggles turned into uncontrollable laughter. Arlet rolled her eyes walking up the stairs. She reached her bedroom and closed the door behind her. She sat down on her bed and grabbed her blue, cordless phone from her nightstand. “Why am I nervous all of a sudden?” Arlet asked herself as she felt butterflies in her stomach and her hands were shaking hysterically. “Relax. You’ve called him plenty of times. He’s just your best friend. Sarah’s wrong. You are not in love with him. She’s just psycho.” Arlet encouraged herself. Finally, Arlet dialed the all-too-familiar number as she waited for him to answer. He picked up. “Hello?” Came his voice. The butterflies in her stomach seemed to flap their wings more rapidly and stronger. “Hi.” Arlet replied, unmistakably nervous. There was an uncomfortable silence between them. “So um...what did you want to talk to me about?” Arlet asked, trying to sound casual as much as possible. “Oh! Uh...I’m wondering if you’re uh, still coming down?” Nick asked, fairly hesitant. Ah ha! He didn’t have the same dream, Arlet thought to herself. If he did, he would of already known I was coming, she continue to think. Arlet smiled and started to feel better. “Yeah of course! Duh! What? You really think I would miss an opportunity to visit one of my best friends. I don’t think so!” She heard Nick laugh on the other end. “Awesome. When are you planning on coming?” “I was thinking about hopping a flight this Sunday. Would that be OK?” “Yeah! That’s perfect. Well, I guess that’s all I wanted to know. Anyways, I got to go, AJ’s coming over. Call me when you got your flight info.” “Alright. Talk to you soon. Later.” “Bye.” Arlet hung up the phone. She couldn’t stop smiling. She was still smiling when the doorbell rang. She ran down the stairs to see two friendly faces. “Lyndsey! Deven!” “Hi!” They both said. They were friends from High School that recently got married. They still kept good contact with them. So good that they were moving into a house down the street. “Come on in!” Sarah told them as she opened the door wider for them. All four of them exchanged hugs and went to the living room. “We saw the game last night. Congratulations on the engagement.” Lyndsey said. “Thank you.” Replied Sarah, grinning. “So, anything else new?” Deven asked dropping an arm over his new wife’s shoulders. “No, not really.” Answered Arlet casually. “She’s in love with Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys.” Sarah blurted out. Deven and Lyndsey looked at Arlet, speechless. “I’M NOT IN LOVE WITH NICK CARTER!” |
