Christmas Time Chapter Two |
|||||||
“Oh, it’s good to be home.” Nick said as he stepped off the plane at Tampa International Airport. The warm air of Florida hit him in the face as he walked out to a limo that awaited him. “Hello Mr. Carter. How was the tour?” The driver asked. “Awesome as usual, Alfred. How’s everything at home?” “Great as usual. May I take your bags?” “No, that’s okay. I can put them away myself.” “As you wish.” Nick smiled as he walked over to the back of the limo and threw his bags into the truck. He then walked over to the side of the limo and got in. “Let’s roll Alfred.” When he arrived at his splendid estate, his brother Aaron greeted him. “Yo Nick! You’re home! Mom! Dad! Nick’s home.” The little miniature version of Nick ran up to his big brother and gave him a huge hug. Nick returned it gratefully. “Hey Little Man! How’s it going? How are my dogs?” “They’re good. I’m so glad you’re home. It’s so boring when you have to play video games by yourself. Mom’s almost finished with dinner. Let’s go! I’m starved!” “Nick! You’re finally home. Come here and give your mother a hug.” Jane said as soon as she saw her oldest son walk into the house. “Hi Mom! Merry Christmas. I’m so happy the tour is over and I can spend Christmas with my family.” “We all are. C’mon, dinner’s almost ready.” “Mom, that was delicious.” Nick commented as he threw his napkin down onto the plate. “I missed you’re cooking.” “I’m glad you liked it. So, how are things with you and Carol?” Jane asked her son. “Oh, we broke up. It wasn’t working out.” Nick answered. “Oh I’m so sorry Honey.” “Good! Man, she was a bitch.” BJ said wiping her mouth. “BJ!” “What? It’s true. Good for you Nick, you kicked her ass to the curb. Like you did with ManDUH.” “Here. Here.” The rest of the siblings said raising their water glasses. “That’s not very nice to say. She may have been mean sometimes but that’s still no way to talk about someone.” “No, that’s okay Mom. It’s not like they’re lying. Anyways, I decided that I’m going to give up on girls for awhile. I’m still young and I’m way to busy to have a relationship with someone.” “Well, whatever you decide Dear.” “Are you sure you want to do that?” Aaron asked. He looked at his twin sister Angel, who returned his gaze with a sly smile. “What?” Nick asked noticing their glances. He narrowed his eyes at the two. “Well, a few days ago, Mom received a letter from some family in Colorado.” Aaron started. “And with that letter, there were about five or six pictures with it.” Angel finished. “Yeah.” Nick responded slowly. “Well, two of the pictures contained this really pretty girl...” “Nope! I don’t want to hear it.” “Oh c’mon Nick! You know you want to see the pictures.” Aaron pleaded. “Aaron’s right. The girl they’re talking about is a looker. Maybe you just want to see them.” Nick sighed. “Fine. Where are they?” Angel and Aaron’s eyes’ lit up as they jumped from their seat and ran into the kitchen. They came out with a envelope. “Here they are. See, isn’t she pretty?” Angel said shoving a picture into Nick’s hands. Nick looked at the picture. His young siblings were right. She was pretty. The picture looked like it was taken really early in the morning because of the lighting of the picture. It showed a girl around his age sitting in a silver Jeep Wrangler, wearing a green beanie and smiling. There were two snowboards strapped on the back which told Nick the girl in the picture was heading up to the mountains to do a little snowboarding. Nick didn’t have a real good close up of the girl’s face but all he knew was that she had a great smile and had really long black hair. He couldn’t see her eyes for they were covered by a pair of silver framed sunglasses. “Go to the next picture. You’ll have a better close up on her face.” Aaron told him. Nick put down the first picture on the table and took a look at the second one. That picture was more of a professional and was a picture of a family. The picture contained five people, all dressed up nicely for the picture. One person in the picture was a guy around BJ’s age with short brown hair that was spiked and wasn’t bad looking. A girl next to him looked a little bit older. She looked around to be in her mid to late twenties and she had shoulder length brown hair, slightly curled at the bottom and was pretty herself. Then, there she was; the girl in the Jeep. She had the biggest smile out of the entire family. Half of her black hair was in a ponytail while the rest fell over her shoulders. Her eyes were a dark brown and were filled with happiness that Nick couldn’t believe anyone had. Her smile was huge and to Nick, real. It’s been awhile since he had seen a real smile. Most of the time, the smiles were fake and forced but this smile, real as real could be. “Wow...” was all Nick could say. “See, we told you so.” The twins said. “Yeah yeah. What’s her name?” “Arlet. She’s around your age, if I remember correctly.” Jane answered. “Arlet. Now that’s name you don’t hear too often.” “Here, here is the letter that was sent with it. The second to the last paragraph is hers. Each of them wrote their own section to talk about what’s going on with each of them.” Bob said, taking out the letter from the envelope. Nick took it and started to read. “Hey Everyone! It’s Me, Arlet! Merry Christmas!” Nick read aloud. “Well, nothing too interesting has happened since last Christmas. Wait! What am I talking about?! Our band just got signed on to Elektra Records! Yes, finally! We are finally signed onto a major record label and believe me, we are all excited. If you don’t remember our band, we’re called Zenobia 42 and I play the bass. Our band consists of three of my really close friends: Sarah (drums), Carrie (vocals, rhythm guitar) and Amanda (vocals, lead guitar). We are suppose to head into the studio to start recording our first album sometime after New Years in New York City.” “Woa! That’s cool. She’s in a band.” Nick exclaimed. “Keep reading. There’s more.” BJ urged. “Well anyways, on to another subject: as you know, I had a boyfriend named Derek. I know most of you are hoping we would walk down the aisle sometime soon. Well, sorry to burst your bubble, that won’t be happening anytime soon. Derek has decided to take another break in our relationship to think again about what he wants. So, right now I am currently single and thinking about making this “break” into a permanent one. I know how much you all loved Derek, I did too but I don’t want to spend the rest of my life with someone who isn’t sure of himself. So, I’m not heartbroken so don’t feel sorry for me. Okay, next subject: tae kwon do is going really well for me. I have made it into the Top Ten once again this year, making this my 6th trip to Little Rock, Arkansas to compete for the world title. And this time, I have regained my title as World Champion for the third and final time for this division. I have successfully tested for my 4th Degree Black Belt just a few months back so now, I have a new challenge for me in my TKD career. To celebrate my testing, I went out and bought myself a new car: a black Toyota 4-Runner which I am very fond of. I still love my Jeep but I decided I needed new car for the mountains. Now I can take up more people with me when I want to go snowboarding up at Winter Park, Copper, Breckenridge, Keystone, Vail and hopefully Aspen. Last subject: if you have watched some Avalanche home games on TV, you probably have seen me with two friends of mine, Sarah and Kim sitting right up against the glass supporting our Colorado Avalanche. We have bought season tickets for the Avalanche and we are so siked it’s not even funny! If you seen us and not sure which ones me, I’m the one who holds up the big A and wears the Ville Nieminen jersey. Well, I guess that raps up my 2001 year. I hope you all have an awesome Christmas and safe New Years! Love and God Bless! Oh yeah, I almost forgot, Don’t Forget The C.A.R! (Colorado Avalanche Rule!)” “Wow, she’s one busy girl.” Nick commented after reading her paragraph. “But good thing it’s Christmas and has some time off. Anyways, that’s enough for tonight. You’ll be able to get to know her better soon enough. Let’s all go to bed now.” Jane said taking the letter and pictures and putting them back in the envelope. “What do you mean?” Nick asked, cocking an eyebrow. Jane smiled at her son. “Re-pack your bags. We’re taking a little trip.” |
