The Saskatchewan Glacier is in the Columbia Ice Fields in the south of Jasper National Park, Alberta. It is a marvelous cross-country skiing trip for anyone so inclined. I am not an avid skier but I can certainly understand how someone can get hooked on it.  The beauty of the mountains is at least as outstanding as it is during the warmer seasons of the year.
Only a few miles south of the Columbia Ice Fields information centre we park the vehicles and begin a trek over a hump and into the valley leading to the toe of the glacier. This is just getting started. The glacier is around the mountain and left into the sunlight.
We are pretty much over the hump and now heading down into the valley and a long ski up to the toe.
A long and fairly level ski up to the toe which is just visible left of centre.
Next to the toe of the glacier we find a spot protected from the wind and have some lunch before attacking the toe for some telemarking.  Of course, I don't have the proper telemarking equipment but everyone else has a great time carving curves in the quite gentle slope of the toe.
Later we skied out to end a vigorous and beautiful day.
