I was living in Red Deer, Alberta, in 1997. In February that year I had a chance to ski into the toe of the Saskatchewan Glacier in Banff National Park. I went with a club from Red Deer. I'd not done that before. It was gorgeous and I'm sure I could get hooked on it. The second day we skied into the Peyto Lake area. This is the hostel we stayed in. It had a sauna which was beside a hole chopped in the ice of a mountain river. I'm sure you can imagine how invigorating that was. Great fun! |
In July, 1998, my second daughter, Michelle Kathleen, moved from Mississippi to Alaska to nurse in Bethel. I travelled up the Alaska Highway with her. We had a memorable time together. This is the memorial at Soldier's Summit |

I'd just moved to Red Deer, Alberta, in 1996. A friend visited and we hiked a day trip at Lake Louise in Banff National Park. We hiked up to Mirror Lake and Agnes Lake. Then we went on to the Little and Big Beehives. From the Big Beehive we went over into the valley to connect with the trail for The Plain of The Six Glaciers. It was overcast and we hiked at times between cloud layers. It's an experience full of mystery and it quiets my soul. That's Lake Louise from way up the valley. |
