MARGARET
Dear Radar,
This letter may seem a little…well odd, but I do mean it.
How’ve ya been kiddo? I know I shouldn’t really call you kiddo, I mean you’re getting married soon. I really can’t believe it, our little Radar. But I am happy for you. I actually had the privilege to work with your fiancée – she’s a wonderful nurse. Tell her I said Hi. I read what you wrote to Colonel Potter – well obviously because I know you’re getting married – and I’m sorry about the farm. I remember all the times you would talk about it, and I would act like I wasn’t interested. Well that’s not the truth. I was jealous of what you had. The way you and Hawkeye would talk about your hometowns made me a little upset and jealous because I didn’t have a hometown to go home to. I really hope that you and Patti can continue with it. It sounds like a really great place to live, but I am glad to hear that Park Sung has helped it.

Radar I really want to apologise for everything I have ever done or said to you. I never honestly wanted to make you feel inferior. I was quite horrible then and I am truly sorry for it. I still mean what I said to you the day you left – you’re okay kid, you are more than that. If only I was 10 years younger…but you’re getting married and I’m…well I am. Klinger already probably told you that Hawkeye and I have been going out for months now. What he didn’t tell you (or what we hope he didn’t) was that Hawkeye and I recently got married.

I hope you can read on from just fainting after our news (HA HA). To say recently would be an understatement. We only just got back from honeymooning 3 days ago.

Ben is a wonderful person and husband and I couldn’t want anything more. He’s 100 times the person Penobscott ever will be. He is my complete opposite – except for the fact that we love one another – so naturally he’s perfect. Better than perfect – also quite wealthy. I didn’t know this until last December – he gave me an engraved bracelet for Christmas and the truth spilt out – he’s as well off as Charles. The good thing is - he doesn’t flaunt it. Not that I would care if he were as poor as the orphans here – I would love him just the same.

Oh and one other little piece of news – I’m pregnant! For real this time and you’re rabbits were never harmed. Ben and I are so excited. He’s already discussing colours for the nursery and names and schools and colleges and where to live. I just hope that this damn war would end soon so we can go home together. Home in Crabapple Cove. I’m so excited – my own home! You’ve got to visit us some time too. You can probably guess this now – but I’m leaving the army - After 11 years and 2 promotions. As it was said almost 2 years ago – I’ll be trading in my boots for booties – forever! For the first time in my life Radar, I’m happy. I now know that I can be loved by someone. I have a home, a loving husband and soon a child. And I can still work – Portland General’s only half an hour’s drive from home! I can’t wait to get back so I can start my life – civilian life. No more kaki clothes, no more moving at every breathe, no more regulations, NO MORE ARMY LIFE! Just think Radar…in a few months you and Patti will be in the same position.

I’ve only been married for 3 weeks, but it’s the best feeling to know that you’re one half of something magical, that you’re other half loves you with all their heart and that someday the two halves will come together and make a whole.

Well, it’s getting late, and Hawkeye will start telling me off about staying up past 8. I don’t mind it though; it’s nice to not be the one in charge. Although I do think 8 is a little early – we’ll compromise.
Well I guess I’ll see you soon…Walter – It’s gonna take a while to get used to that.
Oh and it’s now Margaret Pierce not Major Houlihan anymore.

See ya round kiddo!
Love
Mrs Margaret Pierce
