Back to Mutant League 2006 main page. Mutant League 2006 Rules Sign-Ups Once the annual tournament has been announced, there will be an approximate ten-day registration period before the draft begins. Hopeful participants may sign-up in the Mutant League 2006 - Announcement Thread. Preference for spots will be given to participants from the preceding year. But any hopeful participant should seriously consider the time involved. The Draft The draft will run from Wednesday, January 11 through Thursday, January 19. Participants will be able to draft up to seven available characters from the draft list. The draft order is randomly chosen, and reverses every round. Participants are given thirty minutes from the preceding participant's pick to post their own next pick. If a participant does not post their draft pck within their alotted thirty minutes, they are skipped, and the next participant's thirty minutes begin. However, the skipped participant may then post their pick for that round at any time, so long as their character has not been taken by another player. If participants are unable to participate in a draft round, they may choose to e-mail their draft wish list to me the day before each round. List your poster name and the Draft Round as the subject of your e-mail (i.e. "mattbib Draft Round 2 wish list"). Please do not PM them. Draft wish lists should list characters in the order you'd like to obtain them. If a participant has e-mailed me a wish list, I will draft the first available character on their wish list half-way through their thirty minute period. Any participant who misses two draft rounds in a row, without providing their draft picks for those rounds later in the same day, will forfeit their spot in the tournament.. This year's draft order is: 1. Siddon & venuscameback 2. Flight 3. Tre Styles 4. Joe Zool 5. Spirit of vengeance & Maka Nani 6. UTVol8102 7. Dipset Byrd Gang 8. LoneWolf21 9. Fabian 10. Holland (prev. Twilight) 11. Jessica Drew (prev. The Dosadi Experiment ) 12. The Fury 13. Nightcrawler 14. Corey Dreher & Captain Sarcasm 15. StarsAndGarters 16. The Lucky One Trades and Free Agnecy Immediately following the final round of the draft on Thursday, January 19, players may trade characters with each other. In order to trade characters, both parties must PM me approving the trade. The PM must include the name of the other party and the character that they've agreed to trade. The trade goes into effect once I receive both PMs. Beginning on Friday, January 20, players may PM their trade requests for charactaers still on the draft list. PMs dated before 12:01 AM EST on Friday, January 20 will not be acknowledged. PMs for draft list trades must include which character you want and which you're giving up. These will be awarded on a first-come-first-serve basis. All trading must be completed before Midnight EST on Monday 1/23. EXCEPT...if during the regular season of the tournament any additional characters are revealed to still be a mutants, those characters are elegible for trade once their elegibility has been announced by the tournament administrator. These will also be awarded on a first-come-first-serve basis. However, the trade does not become effective until the trader's second match from that point (thus not affecting the strategy of their opponent in their next match. Regular Season The sixteen (16) teams will be divided into four (4) divisions. The regular season will consist of each team playing in a round robin format within their respective devision. A win receives two points, a tie one point, and a loss none. After the teams have played each team in their division the top three teams will move onto the next round. If teams have an equal number of points the team that won the head to head battle will be ranked higher. If that does not break the tie (both teams tied each other in H2H battle), then the team with the higher overall vote differential will be ranked higher. If that does not break the tie, both teams will have a sudden-death match. Playoffs The top three teams in each division will move onto the playoff round. The division winner will receive a first round bye (scoring an additional win) and receive two points. The second place teams will cross over into the next divisions and will play the opposing third place teams. The winning teams will receive two points and will advance to the Quarterfinal. For example:, using the standings in the example on the left, X-Factor and X-Statix receive first round byes. X-Men will play Gamma Flight, and Nasty Boys will play New Mutants in Playoff Round 1 during Week 4. In Week 5 the higher-ranked conference leaders will play the lower-ranked runners-up from within their own conferences. The lower-ranked conference leaders will play the higher-ranked runners-up. The winners will advance to the Semi-Final. Week 6 will see the intra-conference leaders square off in the Semi-Final round of the Playoffs, followed in Week 7 with the inter-conference leaders battling in the Final round. In the 2006 edition of the League, Westchester and Genosha are in X Conference, while Australia and Madripoor are in M Conference. Battles Battles are scheduled and each team will fight approximately once a week. Teams will be battling until the opposing team cannot continue. Team members will be assumed to be fighting in character. For example, Sabretooth can be written using lethal force, but Leech would not be. The battles will take place in a barren battlefield, and teams are allowed to carry into the battle whatever equipment they normally have with them. They begin the battle 100 meters away from and in clear sight of the opposing team. Players cannot leave the battlefield unless to do so is necessary to utilize a character's powers (i.e. Nightcrawler, Lila Cheney, etc.). Beyond that use your imagination. Strategies The day prior to each match, players will e-mail their teams' strategies to the league administrator, who will post them in a thread devoted to the appropriate match, on CBR's X-Books forum. Please do not PM them. A team that does not submit a strategy will forfeit their spot in the tournament, offering their team up to a new player. A note about imagination: Strategies will be judged on believability and creativity. While there is a great deal of liberty how the match will play out, unfair tactics, like using Lila Cheney to teleport the opposing team into the sun, are not allowed. One-time feats done in the comics will be considered, but the ordinary feat levels demonstrated by a character will be more strongly weighted. Try to rely on information gleaned from primary sources (the comics) before secondary sources (guidebooks and fansites). Ultimately not everyone will have encyclopedic knowledge of the X-universe, but just do your best. Lastly, after each match, team players are assumed to be revived and ready for the next match. Voting Participants and spectators may vote in each match. All voters should use the poll included in each match thread, and vote solely on a team's strategy and defense. The voting poll will remain open for 24-hours for the regular season and the first two rounds of the Playoffs; they'll remain open for 48-hours for the semi-final and final rounds. Participants may question each other's strategies and offer retorts during a match so long as they stay civil. Spectators may also question the participants. However explanations may not contradict or embellish the posted strategy. Voting should not be based on any potential that characters possess or on any other moves that a voter might want to interject on their own. All voters should feel free to comment on why they've voted for a specific team. To maintain fairness across the board, teams with two or more participants will only be allowed one vote in any match. If more than one member of a team votes in a match, only the first vote from that team will be counted. Additionally, while encouraging friends, whether real-life or on-line, or family to vote in the tournament is allowed, encouraging others to vote for you is against the rules and is potentially grounds for disqualification. Friends and family are expected to read both strategies and make a decision based on what is presented; not based on allegiance to a particular participant. All voting should be done without bias. Bannings An issue that sadly has to be addressed. Any player who is permanently banned is also banned from the Mutant League. Anyone who is temporarily banned may remain in the League so long as their banishment does not disrupt the League schedule or prohibit them from submitting strategies. Posters may not vote during their banishment. |
