In addition to
participating in regional and national conferences on international health issues such as
the Canadian Society for International Health (CSIH) and Student University Network on
Social and International Health (SUNSIH) annual meetings, OMAF has hosted and will
continue to host conferences on such issues at McGill.
EMERGING ILLNESS, EMERGING STATES: A one-day conference on International Health.
On Saturday, April 29, 2000, OMAF will host our second conference on current issues in
International Health. This conference will address the interdependencies of disease and
society. Presentations and workshops will discuss the effects of ecological, social, and
political change on the rise of disease and in turn the impact of disease on the social
landscape. For online registration and additional information, please click here.
Inquiries may addressed to omaf@med.mcgill.ca
In May 1998, OMAF, in conjunction with the Student University Network on Social and
International Health (SUNSIH), sponsored a regional conference entitled "Health for
All by the 21st Century?" The conference drew 130 participants from 10 medical
schools to discuss topics such as emerging infectious diseases, relief work, mental
health, women's health, and opportunities for research or work abroad.
More than 20 faculty members and professionals from McGill, Sherbrooke, Université de
Montreal, University of Toronto, Oxfam, and Medecins Sans Frontières participated and led
discussions in both French and English. In addition, students who have participated in
international work or electives shared their experiences. This was the second such
conference hosted by OMAF in its short history. |
