Ghidorah is golden dragon-like specie with two legs, three heads on long necks, bat-like wings, and two tails. Individual Ghidorah have grown to be from 49 to 140 meters tall with a 93 to 175 meter wingspan and a weight from 25,000 to 80,000 metric tons.
Ghidorah first came into the public eye in 1964. Ghidorah is believed to have been incased within a meteor that fell in Japan earlier that year. Ghidorah did a great deal of damage in Japan on his own and as a result of a battle with other monsters, including Godzilla, Rodan and Mothra.
Ghidorah has often been compared with Godzilla and the two monsters have fought on several occasions. Surprisingly, Godzilla has never defeated an adult Ghidorah without the help of other monsters or humans.
Ghidorah has many strengths and powers including; Flight up to Mach 4, impervious armor, lightning bolts from his mouths and wings, a gravity beam, a force field and the ability to absorb life forces.
Ghidorah is able to travel through space. It can convert into a pure energy form that can travel at the speed of light and can go from one planet to another. According to the alien Xian’s, Ghidorah is responsible for the destruction of life on Mars and Venus. According to the legends of the people of Infant Island, Ghidorah is responsible for the extinction of the dinosaurs on earth.
Ghidorah’s main weakness seems to be its inability to prevent others from gaining control over its mind. Several times in the past, aliens have used mind control to use Ghidorah against mankind.
In 1991 a group of people claming to be time travelers from the future used Ghidorah in a plan to destroy Japan. These “futurians” claimed to have created Ghidorah using irradiated creatures called “Dorats”. These claims have never been proven and seem unlikely.
There have been several Ghidorah-like dragons seen in recent years. One of these is the three headed Desghidorah and another is Kaiser Ghidorah. Little is known about these variations. It is possible that they are genetic mutations engineered by aliens.
In 2001 another Ghidorah-like dragon appeared. It was believed to have been under the control of a religious leader by the name of Hirotoshi Isayama, who used a trio of monsters, including a Ghidorah-like dragon called the Yamata no Orochi to try to protect Japan. Yamata no Orochi is normally an eight headed Dragon, but this one was immature and only had three heads so it looked like and was mistakenly identified as Ghidorah.
