"Who's Minding the Drugstore?"
Recently the FDA has been making fewer "enforcement actions" per month (aka letters to companies telling them to change their ways), and some people actually see this as a really bad thing.
Here's an example of what they're talking about: Prevacid is a perscription medicine that helps with heartburn and acid reflux disease. Federal regulators decided, however, that the commercials for it were misleading people into thinking that the drug was for mild cases of indigestion, and therefore the commericals should be altered (as they were later on).
WHO CARES?! First of all, Prevacid is a perscription medication. So even if one
did think it was only for indigestion, a doctor would need to perscribe the medication anyway! If the doctors were misinformed, that would be one thing, but the people watching the "misleading" commercials couldn't obtain it w/o seeing their doctor first. Secondly, we don't need big bureaucratic agencies to make sure everything is safe for the public. They often do more harm than good-- which reminds me of another good article I should point out: How the FDA is protecting us to death. (May 1999)

THIS ONE REALLY PISSES ME OFF (I mean... it raises my blood pressure almost as high as the war on drugs bull shit):
"Students will Scan for Meals" May 28, 2003
Akron, OH: Students will be fingerprinted beginning this fall to identify them in school lunch lines. After a lengthy debate, school board members voted 5-2 Tuesday to spend $700,000 on a controversial, modernized cafeteria system.

ok- read this story, and if it doesn't piss you off you've gotta be Mother Theresa or something.
that's $700,000. stop and think about that quantity of money for a second. seven hundred thousand dollars. SEVEN HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS. instead of using that money to buy a privacy-invading lunch purchasing system, IT COULD BUY ACTUAL FOOD FOR THE STUDENTS. IT COULD BUY HOUSES. IT COULD FEED SOME HUNGRY BASTARDS ON THE STREET. but it's used for some high tech, unnecessary lunchroom crap
i thought punching in a four-didget code at WHS was bad. this is ridiculous. why does some 12-year-old need to get fingerprinted in order to buy a carton of milk? why do these people think they have the right to spend everybody else's money on SUCH
STUPID USELESS SHIT
and why don't people care that this is happening to them?

AND THE SADDEST PART IS: THIS IS
NOTHING. THIS HAPPENS EVERY DAY.
read up on how
your government is wasting your money.
1) A retirement program for chimpanzees.
Creating a Club Med for chimps which have been used in research. In 2001, $45,000 was spent PER chimp.

4) Trying to convince teenagers not to have sex
$40 million to an abstinence program
repeat that with me. 40 million dollars. FORTY MILLION DOLLARS.
5) A Dr. Seuss memorial.
The HUD funding bill contains $400,000 for a memorial to the author of Green Eggs and Ham.
6) Trying to convince fat people to walk up stairs.
$14,900 to redecorate a stariwell to encourage obese employees to WALK UP STAIRS

10) Subsidizing a bug lab.

What Happened To Your Family Budget??
In the 1950s Americans had the highest standard of living in the world. The income tax also amounted to about 2% of the family budget. In the 1990s, the income tax steals more like 25% of the same family's budget. Taxes at all levels: federal, state, and local; hidden and visible, take about
50% of a family's income. WE MUST WORK FROM JANUARY TO JUNE JUST TO PAY TAXES. You work harder. You take home less money. Your governemt wastes your money, arrests you for victimless crimes, and tramples on your freedoms. Your government redistributes your wealth to people who aren't working as hard as you. When is our culture going to get pissed off enough to stop voting republican or democratic?
"The hardest thing in the world to understand is the federal income tax."
-Albert Einstein
"The sole end for which mankind are warranted, individually or collectively, in interfering with the liberty of actions of any of their number, is self protection. The only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others. His own good, either physical or moral, is not a sufficient warrant."
-John Stuart Mill
