1. Shirakawa
Okita-san's place of birth. This area is a World Heritage Site because of it's clusters of Gassho-style houses. Shirakawa is a pretty isolated area, surrounded by a range of 1500 meter high mountains, thus it has nearly isolated the villages from the outside world. The result is an interesting and unique culture and traditional social system which has been handed down for hundreds of years.
