First they come back to beat us from 2-0 down, then they show no great enterprise against Romania, and manage to nick all three points with a last minute free header...thereby going through to play perhaps the weakest of the quarter-finalists, namely the second team in Group B, be it Turkey or Belgium...get down the bookie's, quick.....!

Will wonders never cease? The alternative-reality feeling surrounding the tournament continues with England doing something they'd never previously done in my lifetime, and all with the minimum of fuss too...on the pitch at least...a fairly low-key first half which saw England finish the stronger was just a prelude to a smash-and-grab goal after 53 minutes, Shearer meeting Beckham's free-kick which had been allowed to bounce inside the German box while totally free and planting it in the corner of the onion bag from six yards out, and a backs-to-the-wall job thereafter, with Kirsten and Jancker spurning golden opportunities to equalise, and England scarcely able to believe the turning tide of fortune...Whatever next??
