| He demanded great things and sacrifice from his followers in order to go for a distant goal. But he never asked anyone to do anything he would not do himself. This was one of his greatest strength. He motivated by example. His legacy will live on for years to come. It is important to note the influence that MLK had on both black and white Americans. He could reach across the boundaries and extend his reach to all parties involved. Even so he was not necessarily respected by his adversaries he was feared by them. Many of his enemies felt helpless and defenseless in their efforts to silent him or make him simply go away. Many actions that were directed against him with the goal of defeat where turned around by him and he used him to support his cause. This is one other characteristic of charismatic leaders, their ability to control situation and use them to foster their purpose. Martin Luther King was a master to this regard. “If a man has not found something worth giving his live for, he is not fit to live” Marting Luther King,Jr |
