The Manga
First of all the manga art is SO MUCH PRETTIER then the anime n_n! And Yuu Watase is careful to include every detail to help readers understand the characters and what's going on. And the last 5 volumes of FY which were turned into a 6 episode OVA did NOT do justice for the manga. It was HORRIBLE, they cut out almost everything and the storyline was a mess with all these twists and the viewer is so dazed he or she is still trying to comprehend what exactly just happened in the last episode. Though I'll give the TV series credit for doing a good job the animators of the OVA did improve in the art but they did a horrible job of editing the 5 volumes of manga into only 6 episodes!
By the way the manga has been translated by VIZ but to those readers out there who are learning Japanese or know Japanese I recommend the original Japanese manga, the english one is ok but I hate how VIZ tries to be "cool" and tries to make the speakers talk in english slang or know american culture, ok yeah I know that sounds confusing, ok here's a couple of inserts from my translated volume 1 - this is after Miaka beat up those guys who tricked her (in the first episode of the anime)- "Bring on Jesse "the body" Ventura! I'm ready!" WHAT IS THAT? how is Miaka suppose to know him??? she does live in JAPAN. ok 2nd quote here Tamahome is talking to Miaka right after she became Suzaku no Miko, "The entire empire's gone ga-ga over you... Miss Priestess of Suzaku!" >_< EWWWWW who says ga-ga anymore??? ok 3rd quote, after Nuriko saved Miaka and Tamahome by picking up the pieces of concrete here he says, "So you're still alive?...You lucky devil, you." >_< *shudder* I rest my case.
I'd prefer VIZ to just translate it and not try to incorporate their dialogue with american culture.
