Global Warming
Global Warming: What is it?
-Global Warming is the common term for the increase in average temperature of the earth's atmosphere and oceans in recent decades.  By the year 2100, the entire planet is predicted to increase between 2.5 and 10 degrees F. Global warming is caused by human and non human factors, such as the carbon monoxide our cars give off as well as volcanic emissions.
Why is Global warming a problem?
-Global warming is considered a major envornmental problem for several reasons.  With the polar ice caps increasing so much, massive glaciers are melting.  This excess water is being dumped into the oceans, which in turn completly changed coastlines around the world. Also, the height of the oceans are increasing several inches every year.  Some scientists fear that by the year 2150, Some cities like New York City will be completly under water.  This would devastae our economy and millions would need to relocate.  Also, some scientists believe that if our planet's temperature continues to rise, then our planet would become uninhabitable.  Others believe that the Co2 given off by cars woyld polute our air and eventually our oceans througha  process known as acidification. Also, our ozone layer is being destroyed, which prevents harmful UV rays from getting to the surface.  Without this barrier, the UV rays would reach our skin, causing skin cancer.
My opinion:
Personally I really like global warming.  I don't like New York, there is too much traffic and it is very noisy, therefore, i wouldn't mind if the entire city flooded.  If it did, then my houses property value would increase because I would be closer to the ocean.  Also, I wouldn't mind if the planet got a few degrees warmer.  In my opinion, Ohio needs to get warmer.  In the winter, it's in the negative degrees.  I wouldn't mind if our weather stayed positive from here on out.
PRO'S
-Warmer Weather
-Longer "summers"
CON'S
-ocean acidification
-depletion of the ozone layer
-Ocean Depth increase
-Coastal flooding
What are consumer's and teh government doing?
The government is well aware of the global warming problem, and currently  millions of dollars in research is being funded by the federal government for possible solutions to this enviornmental problem.  One thing consumers can do is to buy low emmision cars which are powered by alternative fuels.  These cars are powered by such products as corn, water, the sun, and natural gas.  With the cooperation from all people, we can help determine the effects of global warming.
