Welcome to Miigi.Com
The Miigi.Com website belongs to the Miighan-Kurt Company. The Miighan-Kurt Co. was established in 2001 in London (Dishken Zibi), Ontario, Canada as an outcome of trade and commerce between Native Canadian and Turkish artisans. The word Miighan pronounced Mayingun means wolf in the Anishinabek (Ojibway/Chippewa) language and the word Kurt pronounced Koort means wolf in modern day Turkish. The reason the Company’s name being wolf is that the wolf has an important role in both Turtle Island (Native name for America) and Turkic Native cultures with the people of the wolf clan usually being business people. Speakers of archaic Turkic dialects understand the meaning of the word Miighan or in short Miigu or Miigi to mean wolf. For that reason we chose the word Miigi to be the name of our website.
About Our Logo
Our ancestors lived in tent like homes and some of our people still do. In the Steppe it is the Yurta, in the Siberian tundra it is the Yaranga, in the Arctic it is the Igloo, in the Woodlands it is the Wigwam, in the Plains it is the Teepee and in the Southwest it is the Hogan. Yurtas, Yarangas and Teepees can be dismantled and set up in another location, while these other tent like structures like the Igloo, Wigwam and the Hogan cannot. From our respect towards our ancestors we choose the image of one of our ancestral homes for our logo.
