A) English I -- Composition
College Essay (and SAT-I) Style
In-test writing, 50 minutes, no notes allowed.

Prompt:
1) What major/significant enterprise would you undertake, if you were guaranteed a personal, recurrent income of 10 trillion dollars per year for the next 100-plus years of your life? and 2) Who--what character(s) (fictional, historical, present, or future)--would you invite to advise and/or assist you?

Note that:
a little over 10 trillion dollars is the current Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the USA (in numerals: 10,000,000,000,000 dollars). See: CIA, World Fact Book:

B) English II -- Expository Writing
Op Ed (Commentary) Style
In-test writing, 50 minutes, no notes allowed (100 points)
Plus 10 points Extra credit : Homework Assignment (At least six properly formatted references, two of each of the three kinds of references. Also: Be SURE to USE PARENTHETICAL DOCUMENTATION, see "Citing References" link, below).

Prompt:
Discuss some current events issue of personal, local, national, and or international concern and its importance to you.

For example:
the controversy around Mr. Hwang Woo-Seok; Science and Bio-Ethics of stem cell research and the sale of Human Eggs; APEC, North/South Korean 6-party Talks; Bird Flu, Recent Elections in Sri Lanka, Oil Prices and related concerns for the stock market and global economy; The War on Terror, particularly in Iraq (Korean participation); White Phosphorus and other banned incendiary weapons used in Fallujah; Global Warming, Polar Bear extinction, Grisly Bears taken off the endangered species list in the USA; The year of major Weather abnormalities, such as Tsunami, Katrina, Rita, the Pakistan/Cashmere Earthquake; Nikolai Tesla, HAARP, Free Energy, Alternative Energy



Evaluation Criteria: for both tests (and homework)

* Content: Insightful, Effective--presenting pros AND cons in assignment B--with supportive, logic, evidence, and/or anecdotes. In the conclusion: answer to your own satisfaction the question, "So what?"
* Grammar and style: Concise; forceful; polished with good diction, detail, and flair. While every error in grammar and style may not be penalized, do note that : the following four challenges may warrant deduction of points:
