Birthplace: Telgar Hold
Location: Mirror Lake Weyr
Occupation/Rank: Master Healer

Physical Description

Cohera can best be described as getting on in turns. Or so her body might lead one to believe. A busy lifestyle of patient after patient and six children has left Cohera's face with more than a few wrinkles. Worry lines mar her forehead, laugh lines dot either cheek, and her blue eyes look as though she's gotten two hours of sleep at most during the best of times. Her dark brown hair has begun to silver with age in a distinct pattern. She has two very strange streaks of gray leading out from both temples. One guess on this strange pattern comes from her constant rubbing of her temples (or banging her head on the wall). Her body is in relatively good shape overall. She's a bit on the skinny side but not to badly underfed. The cooks are always trying to bulk her up as with her short frame, she looks like someone who should be carrying some weight.

Personality

Cohera is a busy person and she'll be the first one to tell you that. She's so used to rushing around getting things done that she doesn’t quite know how to slow down and smell the hot klah. She always seems a bit loopy along side being busy. Her words sometimes slur and she tends to talk backwards on occasion. The darker the rings under her eyes, the less understandable she is. The less sleep she's had also means the more chatty she is so there's even more speech to misunderstand. She tends to relate life stories and wisdom in a passing way that has been called sneaky on occasion. Cohera is known for her protective nature when it comes to her patients and infirmary. Her turns as a Healer have made her antsy about younger Healers and some of the older ones. Typically she takes on a single Jr. Journeyman or woman to become her aid and only allows them to work with her 'special cases'. This loner mentally has always made her good for small infirmaries but not so good in large ones. Overall Cohera isn't too bad of a person, just don't mind when she snaps a bit.

Background History

Cohera was born the third child to a young couple in Telgar Hold. Her parents were miners of a rare mineral nicknamed Feline's Eye. Her childhood was wholly uneventful, little shook up the community. At 12, Cohera had to decide where to go. She could follow her oldest sister to a Weyr, or follow her brother and parents into mining or she could forge her own path. And so she did.

Cohera entered the Healer Hall at Fort at the age of 12 (and a half as she was quick to remind people). It wasn't long before Cohera began to slip into the flow of life at the Hall. She moved through classes with what she believed was ease but in fact she was merely just scraping by. In her fifth turn as an Apprentice, she was warned to ship up or ship out. It was then that she discovered that she could be a workaholic if she tried. She took to her studies day and night. Little slowed her down and mealtimes, as well as fun time, were the sad causalities of her new found drive. She got thin very quickly and several of the cooks took it upon themselves to stuff her with food whenever they got the chance. Turns passed, Cohera made Jr. Journeywoman at 19 and chose to remain on at the Hall. She made herself at home with in the infirmary and became known for both handling hard cases and being the most amusing thing to present to children if she hadn't slept in 24 to 36 candlemarks (although she whole heartily disagrees). It was during this time that she met and fell in love with her first husband. Cook Demathi was brought into the infirmary with an odd case of fever. He was ill for many months and during this time became interested in the young Healer who seemed to never stop going. One whirlwind romance later (that involved much screaming and even more fighting, oddly enough), the pair married as soon as Demathi was declared healthy.

No one is to sure exactly how the next ten turns of Cohera's life went. To her it's a blur, to her long-time friends they have no idea how she managed her nutty husband (known for kidnapping his wife away at irregular intervals), worked her way towards Sr. Journeywoman and gave birth to four healthy children. Rumor has it she gave up sleeping as a hobby. But regardless, at 33 she found herself a widow when Demathi mysteriously passed away of an unknown illness. Cohera was forced to slow down her busy life to manage her four children with the youngest at only three turns of age. With her usual amount of strong will, she plowed her way through five lonely turns. Her children grew with her oldest being Searched to Fort Weyr while he was visiting there. While visiting him at the Weyr she had the misfortune to run into Camin, the WeyrHarper. The pair argued fiercely (although what over remains a mystery) and Cohera stormed out. She returned with all of her children some months later to witness her son Impress a large brown dragon. And she also returned to renew her fight with Camin. The argument (now believed to be over the color her son would Impress) would continue for five months. At which point the pair simply married and got it over with. At her wedding, her son presented her with a firelizard egg. Sometime later, the egg hatched into green Bahari. The creature, little more than a stomach with wings, proved to be useful so Cohera took care of it.

The turns passed by and events happened. Dalei, her next oldest, married a wealthy Herder. Her next daughter Rei followed her into the Healing craft. She had two more children, Mera and Ceimi and then the next oldest after Rei, Heira, Impressed a green at Ista Weyr. When her two youngest were old enough to be minded by Nannies and her husband by himself, she began the long process of working towards her Mastery. She worked hard and ended up starting a study into the cause of death of her first husband. Four turns later she would finally give a name to the disease 'Mathi's syndrome' and another three following that before, by chance, she stumbled onto the cure. A large dose of a root plant, long favored by runners as a snack, stopped symptoms and seemingly cured the problem. With this work and her infirmary work, Cohera was granted her Mastery and stationed at Fort Weyr under aging Master Healer Beleris.

One turn later her husband died of the disease named for her first husband after the treatment seemingly failed. Saddened, Cohera moved her two youngest children to Ista Weyr to be close to her daughter Heira. She would spend the next two turns throwing herself into her work. She slowly began to lose weight and her hair, already a good mix of gray and brown, began to have its odd pattern. Her daughter decided that maybe her mother needed a break. By this time Ceimi, her youngest, was Searched and Mera, the next youngest, was happily settled in among family at Telgar Hold. So Heira, with the aid of all of her siblings, convinced her mother to move. The woman finally agreed with her children and accepted a position as Master Healer at Mirror Lake Weyr under the careful eye of her oldest son and his two young children.

Firelizard Info

Name: Bahari
Color: Green

Description

Bahari is the sea on a firelizard canvas. Her broad wing span had been dipped into the colors of the shoreline. Foamy seagreen, dark turquoise and mossy green all coat her from wingtip to wingtip. Her head and body seem to be more in the color of the beach than the ocean. Tan markings over washed in green, none larger than a thumbprint, surround her multifaceted eyes. Dark green streaks begin on each side of her body and wind their way down her back to her tail. Bahari is an eating machine. Some say Cohera's busy schedule and therefore lack of firelizard care time has given this creature a complex. She hoards food near constantly and complains that she wants more often. She has been trained in her 16 turns of life. She carries and returns messages with ease, as long as there's the promise of a snack in it for her.
