Physical Description

Laryssa has blond semi-curly hair, which reaches down to her waist. She is fierce about cutting it though she knows that if she Impresses it may be easier to do so. Her eyes are deep green and flash when angry (which is not often), and a dimple appears in her left cheek when she smiles.

While her bone structure is that of being big-boned, she is not overweight and her figure is fairly slender. Her bone structure is not overly noticeable as she stands a tall 5'8 and is still growing (though not much). She is averagely proportioned.

When not doing chores, Laryssa prefers to wear full dresses that are loose and hang to her ankles. Her favourite colours to wear are a deep blue or russet, though she loves bright colours and enjoys flamboyant outfits. Laryssa does not wear much jewelry as she does not have much other than a few shelled combs for her hair.

Personality

Laryssa is a young woman and like most at the age of 17, she is fairly confident that she knows and can do it all. However, she always accepts the judgement of her superiours and those older than herself. She can be soft-spoken and shy when in large group settings, however when she is with her friends, she is not afraid to speak her mind.

While she loves to debate, she is the first to run from any sort of confrontation. When confronted about something, she is likely to be meek and accept whatever is said or what she may be told to do, but seethes inside. She does not make close friends easily, but those she does make are friends for life. These are the few she may open up to and confide in, but confidences are rare.

Background History

Laryssa was the first (and only) child of her mother, Layala. She was a very small baby and it was not thought that she would live. However, Laryssa fought for her life, and that drive still exists in her today. A little over a year later, her mother was again in labour. The outcome was not good for both mother and child. Layala died while giving birth, and the child (a son) was stillborn.

Laryssa grew up as many other weyrbrats did, helping around the Weyr, getting into trouble now and then (which she always managed to talk her way out of), and enjoying the freedoms of Weyr life. At a young age she discovered animals other than dragons or flits and began persuing learning more about them and soon an affinity with animals developed. Not only did she enjoy caring for them, but she was often found trying to "help them feel better". Laryssa was found more often than not in the fields with the herdbeasts or in the runnerstable at the Weyr.

At the age of 12, she approached her foster mother with the idea of apprenticing to the beastcraft. Her foster mother, however, disapproved of the idea and began to persuade the young girl to stay in the Weyr where she may be given the chance to impress a dragon. Somewhat reluctantly, Laryssa agreed to stay at the Weyr with her friends and all she's ever known to stand on the sands. Since then she has stood for two Hatchings and has been disappointed at both.

Finally, her time to Impress came. She stood on the sands trying to fight nerves, but also trying to be ready for potential disappointment again. However, the disappointment wouldn't come. Early on in the Hatching, she heard a chirp at her feet. At her feet was a small green dragon. When Laryssa moved to help the little hatchling, Impression had occurred and Laryssa had a new weyrmate - green Arceliath. The young woman is more than overjoyed and couldn't be any happier. Now, if she could make it through weyrling training without being "just a girl", she would be ecstatic.

Description

Arceliath is probably one of the lightest coloured greens that Laryssa has ever seen. Along her haunches and down her tail, there is a hint of a slightly darker colour, but only just a hint. It's hard to tell if that is caused by lighting or shadows when she moves, or if it's the actual shading of her hide. So far she seems to be a little on the small side, even for a green.

Her true personality is still yet to be seen, but she seems to be rather on the dainty side, which seems to go with her size. Arceliath also seems to be convinced that she can do anything any of the other dragons can do - including the older ones. She will be a tough one to try to hold back throughout weyrling training.
