King's Highway 417
Hwy 417 is a very important highway that forms most of the link between Ottawa and Montreal, and is part of the Trans-Canada Highway. It continues into Quebec as A-40. The highway is basically a freeway extension of Hwy 17, which at one time also went as far as Montreal. The highway will be extended west to near Arnprior later this year, and eventually will reach Pembroke.

Highway 417 looking westbound, approaching the Cyrville Road overpass in the City of Ottawa. The junction with Ottawa Road 174 (formerly Hwy 17) and the Aviation Parkway is in the distant background. While it is not visible due to the darkness, the BGS is mounted on an unusual square tube-type gantry. The BGS shown directs traffic towards Rockland via Ottawa Road 174. If you are a member of the Yahoo! Finance Group Canroads, you can view a photo taken by Averill Hecht of the same site as it looked in 1980 here. Photo taken 25 November 2003. (Sorry for the poor quality, it was midnight and I was using an automatic camera)
