Playgroup Guidelines

These guidelines have been created to ensure that all MOMS Club® playgroups are in accordance with International MOMS Club® by-laws. (Revised August 2002)

• Only MOMS Club® members can attend playgroups. A MOMS Club® Member is a person that has paid her dues and completed the necessary paperwork.

• Anyone wanting to join a playgroup needs to contact the Administrative VP in order to become a member of that particular playgroup.

• Each Playgroup has a criteria/parameter (example: May-June 2002) for membership that needs to be followed. Children's birth date must fall within the parameters.

• Playgroups are considered "full/at capacity" once they reach six members. At this time a new group can be created based on need. If a member drops out of a "full" playgroup, that group will once again be considered "open" until a sixth member joins.

• Each member needs to sign in, at each playgroup, on the sign-in sheet provided by the playgroup coordinator. These forms need to be turned in to the Administrative VP at each month's business meeting.

• Sick children are not allowed to attend playgroups ( See Sick Child Policy)

• No smoking during playgroups.

• Playgroups must meet during the day. A regular meeting day/time is encouraged.

• Parents are responsible for watching and supervising their children at all times.

Child Behavior Policy

MOMS Club® activities are meant to be enjoyable and safe events for both parent and child. MOMS Club® respects parenting differences, but expects that all children will behave appropriately at MOMS Club® activities. This policy is in place to ensure the enjoyment and safety of all club members and children. 

Unacceptable behavior includes but is not limited to: 

• Hitting

• Scratching

• Kicking

• Biting

• Spitting

• Slapping

• Hair pulling

• Destruction of property

• Overly aggressive behavior

In the unfortunate event that any of this behavior occurs during MOMS Club® activities, please remove your child until the behavior is corrected. If the behavior continues, an Executive Board member may intervene and ask the member to temporarily remove the child(ren) from the situation.

Mom Behavior Policy

MOMS Club® is here to support mothers who choose to stay at home with their children. We support all mothers and recognize that there are many different parenting styles and personalities in our club. To ensure a safe, supportive atmosphere, we ask the following of all members:

• You are responsible for your child(ren) at all MOMS club functions. If you cannot supervise them all, please talk to other members ahead of time to see if they can lend a hand.

• When disciplining your child(ren), please speak in a quiet voice and remove you child(ren) from the area. Loud voices and yelling are upsetting and disruptive to others.

• Please remove your child(ren) from the area of time-outs.

• Do not discipline another mother's child(ren) without their permission. In the event that your child is in conflict with another child, please separate them and take the other child to his/her mother.

• As a support group, there will be many conversations with and about members. To be supportive, no negative gossip or demeaning comments are allowed.

• Please be sensitive to others' feelings. Jokes or stories of a sexual, racial, offensive or insensitive nature will not be tolerated.

• You are responsible for following the by-laws of this club, including the general by-laws, sick child policy, children behavior policy, as well as this mom behavior policy.

To ensure the comfort of moms from all economic and cultural backgrounds, we ask all members to follow the above guidelines. In the unfortunate event that these guidelines are not followed, the Executive Board will discuss the issue with the member(s) involved, and has the authority to impose penalties as outlined, which may result in asking her to leave the club.

Sick Child Policy

Please do not bring your child(ren) to any MOMS Club® event if s/he has any of the following symptoms:

• Elevated temperature/Fever (currently or in the previous 24 hours)

• Sore throat

• Diarrhea

• Vomiting

• Runny nose (thick yellow or green)

• Pink eye (conjunctivitis)

• Yellowish skin or eyes (jaundice)

• Head lice

If your child has or has recently had any of the common childhood illnesses (i.e. Fifth's Disease, Hand-Foot-Mouth, Chicken Pox...) please have your pediatrician confirm that your child is NO LONGER CONTAGIOUS. Not only are these diseases highly contagious, in some cases they are also extremely dangerous for pregnant women as well.

Miscellaneous Information

• Activities at members' homes are for Members Only.

• All activities must be held during the day and children are always welcome.

• MOMS Night Out is the only exception to the above rule. This activity is held once a month in the evening at places appropriate for children if a mom wants or needs to bring them (although most won't) .

• We are currently sending our monthly calendar and newsletter electronically via e-mail using PDF format, which can be read with a free download from Adobe. If you have trouble downloading the files, please let the President know and she can put you on a hard copy mailing list.

• We currently send most invitations to MOMS Club® events via e-mail using Evite. If you do not have access to e-mail please let the President know and she will put you on our call list.

• Please DO NOT send "spam" to the members' e-mail distribution list.
