Mani Rimdu Festival

This is a special Sherpa Buddhist celebration, observed but once a year, during a full moon of November. It is both religious and social and attracts many local people, both Sherpa and Tibetan. Trulshig Rimpoche, a reincarnated Lama travels to Chiwong monastery, located in the Solu region above a cliff, to preside over 4 days of activities, including blessing, creation of a sand mandala, masked dance dramas, and a fire ceremony. The setting is a pine forest, with superb snow-peak views and the possibility of several fine day hikes.
