Erin's Journal for 9-23-02

Today was our chore day. I luckily was able to sleep in, as Glenn just went down for breakfast on his own when he awoke. Then the construction downstairs began (it's a Monday!), and I woke up to read. I read in bed until Glenn got back upstairs, then we both headed off to the showers. A nice, lazy morning!

When we were all cleaned up, we assembled our laundry (most of both our clothes), wore our sandals so we could wash all our socks, and ventured out. It was VERY cold in Dresden today, in the 40's with a wind chill below that, and I was very glad we only had a short way to go! We sat and did laundry for a couple of hours as I read more of my novel and Glenn caught up on journals. Then we returned to the hostel to lay out a few still-damp items and repack the rest. We are in a new room for this last night, so we're hoping to get some good roommates who'll sleep at a reasonable hour and be quiet!

We still needed to find an internet cafe that would allow us to hook up our pda and transfer journals to our website, but after wandering a little to a couple of local ones, discovered it would be unlikely in this small town. We decided to head back to the small internet cafe next to the hostel and just catch up on emails instead, keeping close to home during this cold weather.

I emailed several folks I hadn't said hi to in a few days (or weeks) while Glenn sat next door in the hostel getting caught up on the rest of his journals. I joined him after about an hour, where we sat and watched CNN and read our books. We were joined by several of our friends from the hostel for Chinese food dinner, and kept a very low profile, relaxing evening. The group we'd been moved from our previous room to accommodate had arrived - a large crowd of women - so we were just as happy to be moving on. Tomorrow: off to Prague!
Dresden was a gorgeous city by night. This photo was captured from one of several bridges spanning the now-tame river
