Erin's South Australia Journals - 12-01-02

Sunday was a nice touring day, as the weather was perfect at 30C and the skies were clear. Andrew and Kylie picked us up at 10:15 and drove us down to the southern suburb of Victor Harbor, where we walked out the causeway and took a short hike around Granite Island. The views were spectacular along the coastline, and we enjoyed feeling the sea breeze and the warm sun. We stopped for lunch after our island hike, watching one of those carnival slingshot rides where two people sit in a metal sphere cage and are then flung upwards on long cables. Nobody let out a bloodcurdling scream to keep us amused, though, so we moved on to another nearby hill outcropping and climbed it for an even better coastline view. We sat up there and chatted for almost an hour before slipping down the trail to the car and moving further south. We stopped in at a flea market near the harbor, and Glenn found a wonderful Australian-style hat for himself. He looks truly Aussie with it on!

Next stop was the nearby wine region, where we made it in time for a couple of wine tastings. We wanted to give our host a thank-you bottle of red wine, so we searched a bit and found a good one at Currency Creek. Then we dropped through Andrew's childhood weekend home on the way back into Adelaide, and he and Kylie dropped us off with the promise of getting together for a BBQ later this week. We chatted with our host for a bit, then walked down and found dinner near the beach. We were tired, though, and had been given permission to use our host's computer for picture-formatting and website work! I set straight to work when we returned to the house, and stayed up till 1:30am (5 hours) working on photos. Accomplishment felt good though, as all our pictures up to today are now ready to go on the website. Tomorrow I'll work on the journals.
We didn't see many kangaroos until we left for Kangaroo Island
