Glenn's Journal for 9-30-02 - Vienna Today we decided to relax as we spent our last day in Vienna. We had not seen any of the outskirts of town so we chose a few places to see and headed out. The first place on our list was Schloss Schonbrunn towards the south of Vienna. The palace and associated courtyard was spectacular until we went around the back to the garden. The garden, covered with beautifully manicured lawns and flowers, included a zoo, botanical garden, and a butterfly house. It took us well over an hour to just walk around the garden. We left the garden and found a little cafe where we had lunch while relaxing in the shade of the surrounding trees. After lunch we railed our way to Volksprater, which is where the amusement park is located. The amusement park is permanently located here with the huge ferris wheel, roller coast rides, and games to be played by all ages. The park was very quiet today as it is Monday and sections of the park have already closed for the winter. We strolled through the park before ending up at a nearby park reading our books and enjoying the sunshine. We then railed our way back into town for dinner (weinerschnitzel and cordon bleu again) before returning to the hostel. Tomorrow is a travel day to Salzburg and we have to check out by 10:00 am. We read a while before calling it a night. |
