Glenn's Journal for 10-13-02 - Brugge This morning we awake to a beautiful day with no rain in sight, blue skies, and the sun trying to warm up the day. We agreed we would stay another day in Brugge. While I was waiting my turn in the shower I met a gentleman (Jeremy) from Tasmania who had travelled extensively around Africa. He shared some of his recommendations for our trip. After my shower we headed down to breakfast where (lo and behold) Jeremy and his wife Jacqui and 6 month old baby sat down next to us. We also ran into Alex who sat on the other side of us. We chatted with Jeremy and Jacqui for an extended breakfast while they shared more ideas for our trip. They also invited us to stop into their place in Tasmania when we get there later this year. What a wonderful opportunity!!! I can't wait to meet them again. We also talked with Alex and they had decided to stay another day in Brugge as well. We agreed to meet at the bike tour and maybe even have dinner together tonight. Erin was feeling much better today so off we were into town to look around before catching the bike tour at 1:00 pm. A little before 1:00 pm we ran into Alex and Mindy at the start of the bike tour. The bike tour lasted 4 hours, including a pancake and waffle stop along the way, and provided some interesting history of the city of Damme and the surrounding areas of Brugge. The weather held out even though it was a little chilly today. After the bike tour we stopped into a pub that had over 300 beers. Alex and Mindy joined us along with Ross and Louise (a brother and sister who worked in London, but are from just south of Melbourne, Australia). After a few hours here we were all ready for dinner. By now it was raining again and Louise and Ross took off in search of mussels for dinner while the four of us headed back to the hotel to drop off our daypack. We then returned to "The Gulden Spuur" to check out the menu of the day again. On the way we determined that Mindy was not a big seafood lover and after finding the menu to be the same we returned to the Passage for dinner. Tonight Alex and I had spare ribs (not as good as Kansas City) while Erin had the chicken stew and Mindy had beef kabobs. By the end of dinner we were all ready for bed. Before bed though we shared information with them on train connections to other locations including the trip on the Rhine river and times to Munich from Mainz. We hope they have a good time!!! They are also talking about Southeast Asia so we told them to keep in touch and we may see each other again. We both planned on leaving tomorrow so a good nights sleep is important before a travel day. |
