Glenn's Journal for 11-10-02  Cape Town

It is Sunday morning and we are up at 7:30 am. We are meeting the apartment owner at 8:30 am to pay the rent and thank her very much for these wonderful accommodations. At 9:00 am our friends (Chris and Denise, neighbors of mine from Seattle) will be by to pick us up and we will head to Plettenberg Bay. They have a condo in Plett for 2 weeks that Denise won at an auction earlier this year. We happened to be in South Africa (a little planned) at the same time and they have been nice enough to invite us to stay with them for a few days. We can't wait!!!

We quickly showered, had breakfast (trying to clean out the extra groceries from the refrigerator), and packed until Adele knocked on the door at 8:30 am. We talked with Adele for a while and paid the rent and the phone bill. She is a wonderful lady and I mentioned that I would be recommending her place to all of my friends. Adele left around 9:00 am and we finished packing while we waited for Chris and Denise to call us to let us know that they were on their way. They called around 9:15 am and had a few things they still wanted to do but they would be on their way soon. No worries as we are ready to go and relaxing while enjoying the view. It is another cool and windy day on the beach.

Chris and Denise arrived around 10:00 am and after fitting our things into the Polo car that they had rented we were ready to go. Before we took off we showed them the apartment, just in case they decided to stop back through Cape Town before catching their flight home. They thought the apartment was a good option and may utilize it later. We were now ready to head out after stopping at a bank for some cash.

The ride to Plettenberg Bay included a stop at Eikendal winery where we tasted 10 different wines. We ended up buying a few bottles of wine to enjoy over the next week or so. After the stop at the winery we stopped for lunch before finishing the drive to Plettenberg Bay. We arrived in town just in time to find the last grocery store open until 7:00 pm. We quickly shopped as they were turning out the lights.

We made our way to Goose Valley, a few kilometers east of Plett, where, after a little delay in getting the key, we found our way to the condo. What a view and what an impressive condo. We were thoroughly pleased and excited about the whole place. Tonight included dinner prepared "at home" with salad and spaghetti, and of course some wine. Throughout the drive and dinner we chatted about our journeys and how much fun we were all having. Denise and Chris had flown through Amsterdam, where they spent a few days, before flying into Cape Town. This was also their first major trip since their son Jeremy came into their lives three years ago.

We were all pretty tired from the day and retired early tonight. We had no expectations for tomorrow and that is what vacation is all about!!!
