Glenn's Journal for 11-11-02 Plettenberg Bay Monday morning and we awoke in a wonderful place. The view from the condo balcony includes overlooking the golf course and the nearby inlet. Off in the distance we can see the ocean and the city of Plettenberg Bay. The morning started off at a relaxed pace, enjoying a leisurely breakfast and slowly preparing for the day. We finally found our way into town to explore. The original expectation is that we would go into town for a quick look around but, as things go, we ended up in town for about 4 hours. We located the information office, a few neat shops, the SPAR (grocery store), and a Postnet, which had internet as well. We also located the post office and purchased stamps for post cards and a new phone card. Chris and Denise also purchased a phone card so they could phone home tonight. The condo did not have a phone but there were pay phones available by the main office. We also enjoyed a decent lunch with cappuccino's and milkshakes while in town. While in town the nice gentleman at information recommended the Rod & Reel restaurant for dinner. Without too much discussion Erin had us all convinced that we deserved dinner at the Rod & Reel. The restaurant was beautifully located with views of the beach and surrounding mountains to the north. Dinner including starters, a plentiful main course, dessert, and wine cost each couple less than $25. We appreciated the recommendation. After the day in town we returned to the condo and settled in for the evening. Chris and Denise snuck out to make phone calls while Erin and I cleaned up a little. After they returned Erin coaxed Chris and Denise into playing Shanghai Rummy (a card game that we learned from friends on our last trip). I say coaxed as Denise did not seem too keen on playing but, being the sport that she is, she agreed to play. We finally "hit the hay" after 10:30 pm. We were all ready for bed tonight. Tomorrow we had agreed to go to Monkeyland. Yeah!!! |
