The original Fast and the Furious, opened to $40 million and went on to gross a total of $141 million. That film had two things going for it: the element of surprise, and one Mr. Mark Vincent (aka Vin Diesel). Unfortunately, the newly released sequel, 2 FAST 2 FURIOUS, is cursed with three things: no surprise, no Vin, and one stupid friggin name. The trailers looked dull, and the film just had a downright negative vibe to it. So naturally, I went to go see it opening night.
And you know what? It didn't suck at all, if not, it may have been just a bit better than the original. The characters all seem to have improved on since the original. Paul Walker does a much better job this time around, and along with Tyrese Gibson and Cole Hauser as the drug-dealing villain, the cast is pretty well rounded-out.
This time the action is set in Miami, where Brian O'Connor has now become the threat on the streets that Vin was in the original. He is all badness here and we get that from the start. He is soon inlisted by the cops to help transport money for a drug dealer, linking the money to the dealer. Brian enlists the help of his childhood friend, Roman Pierce, who is played with flair by Tyrese. They hook up and are put into situations that seem to throw them behind the wheel of a car every time. Which is okay, cause it dosen't really matter in the end, anyways.
I really enjoyed this film. It isn't one to be taken seriously, for crying out loud. I don't want to hear people complain about how this couldn;t happen or how that couldn't happen. IT'S A FRIGGIN ACTION MOVIE ABOUT STREET RACING!!!! I don;t care, I just want to see hot girls and hot cares doing hot things, and boy does this film deliver that on all fronts. We get many hot women in really hot outfits. We also gets some really sweet import cars, along with about five awesome American made muscle cars.
2 FAST is nowhere near intelligent. It is brainless, stupid, total fun! Tyrese gives a really great, funny performance as this crazy dude who doesn't give a crap, and Cole Hauser is menacing as the drug dealer.
Go see it for stupid fun, and go see some other crap movie for story, plot, and something smart. |
