Three words: HO-LY CRAP!

THE HULK may be the best movie so far this year. I was not expecting such a crazy ride of a movie walkin into it. I was expecting a "serious drama" from what I've heard around the block. I've read neumerous review around the net saying that it is a slow, character flick with little action and lots of plot. Well, there is A LOT of plot. Enough for two movies even. But there is also a glorious amount of action in this movie it made me lose my breath. I can't remember the last time I watched a movie and then couldn't find the word to express the utter coolness that I had just witnessed. THE HULK rocks up and down the boards.

On the story/plot/character side: Everything is in tip top shape here. The plot surround the evolution of The Hulk and Bruce and Betty and all that mess. It really focuses on fatherly relationships or lack thereof. Betty and her father have a horrible relationship, as do Bruce and his father, David. David is insane, and want to kill Bruce. Guess there won't be any bring your son to work days for them. The characters are all extremely fleshed out and colorful, including a slimy government agent played by Josh Lucas. The Storytelling and editing and filming by Ang Lee and his cohorts is aboslutely brilliant. It seems like I was watching a living comic book. Pictures fade into each other. A period at the end of a setance sprouts into a cactus for the next shot, the screen is split into comic-book like panels a la
24. Everything is genius here.

The action/special effects side: After the first 30-45 minutes, things jumpstart and never let up. We get all the story in the first third of the flick, and then balls-to-the-walls action in the next 2/3's. See The Hulk go up against three hulked-out dogs! AWESOME! That fight was the coolest thing I have ever seen in a flick! See The Hulk go up against four tanks, and then up against four helicopters! BRILLIANT! The Hulk acctually grabs a missle out of the sky, bites the explosive tip off anf spits it back at the chopper, blowing it's tail off! GOOD GOD IN HEAVEN! I cannot express in words how amazingly cool all this was.

And finally: The Hulk himself. The green meany looks great. You know he's CG, so get over it. He's great CG. They really did a wonderful job with lighting and designing and animating him. Everything is great. The Hulk is great.

THE HULK, as I said before, may be one of the best movies of the year so far. So do it justice and throw down your cash for it!
