My theory when the casting directors saw this script: Lets take the coolest guy in DAREDEVIL (Farrell), the coolest guy from DEPP BLUE SEA (Cool J), and the coolest chick from THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS (Rodriguez), put them under the command of the coolest dude in any friggin movie (Sam Jackson), and give them sweet guns and people to shoot at! We got us a profitable movie!
In S.W.A.T., we get the best of the best of the LAPD deep in some of the worst criminals they have ever seen. We start off with Street and his partner, Gamble (Jeremy Renner) foiling a bank robbery but in the process shooting a hostage. The hostage will live, and the rubbers are dead, but Gamble is thrown off the force and Street is busted down rank, forced to work in the S.W.A.T. autoshop cleaning rifles and whatnot. Enter Hondo (Sam Jackson), the baddest mutha ever to be on the S.W.A.T. team, he is assigned to assemble a new S.W.A.T. team, and he want Street on it.
After that, we get a whole twenty minutes of them training so they won't get kicked out by the pencil-necked captain. They pass, and are sent out as the official LAPD S.W.A.T. team.
Then comes along Alex Montel (Oliver Martinez), an international criminal who is pulled over for a busted taillight, and then arrested for all of his international drug crimes. He offers $100 million dollars to anyone who can spring him from the grasp of the LAPD and, assigned to transport him to a high-security prison, the new S.W.A.T. team. Then it all hits the fan. After double-crosses and explosions abound, the S.W.A.T. team faces some of the hardest challenges they have ever seen.
S.W.A.T. requires more outline than review because the review for this film is very simple. Go see it for mindless fun and have a blast while doing it. That's about it. Please don't go expecting relevancy, please don't. Actually, this movie is pretty smart for your average shoot-em-up flick, and it has some great actions cenes, including the last fight that occours in a train yard.
So check out S.W.A.T. for some cool actors, good action, and an above-average plot all thrown into one good movie experience. This movie may not be for everyone, though. Just remember, "You're either S.W.A.T. or you're not." |
