1999 Sterling Sauvignon Blanc

Tasting Notes: This Sauvignon Blanc is a bright, pale straw color.  It has big bright and grassy aromas, with gooseberry, figs, and lemon grass accents.  It has rich, ripe luscious lemony fruit flavors, juicy honeydew melon notes, with a long seductive finish.
Our Notes: As with most sauvignon blancs, Sterling's is crisp and citrusy.  It is wonderful when it is well chilled on a warm day.  It goes very well with a nice leafy salad like a spinich salad.  Most noteable about Sterling is their vineyard, which is one of the most memorable in Napa.  It is gorgeous.  Sterling Sauvignon Blanc should be found between $10 and $14.

1999 Duckhorn Sauvignon Blanc

Tasting Notes: The aroma of the Duckhorn Sauvignon Blanc is a medley of fruit.  Most noteably lemon, lime zest, melon, pear, orange blossom, mango and apricot blend, which blend beautifully with honey, minerals and green grass.  The wine is bright and well balanced with fruit and acidity that are followed by a long, rich, lingering finish.
Our Notes: You probably noticed that green grass has been a common theme in this months sauvignon blanc selections.  Maybe it's because I just mowed the lawn.  Actually, it's because many 1999 sauvignon blancs have green grass undertones.  It may not sound good, but it is.  You'll have to trust us.  It's very subtle, but it is perfect for a sauvignon blanc, and Duckhorn has proven it.  This is a wonderful sauvignon blanc that I would drink on its own just sitting on the deck on a nice autumn evening.  As with all sauvignon blancs, be sure to chill this wine well.  It can be found for right around $20.
