Bathsheba was a very beautiful woman who was the wife of of Uriah, a man who was in David's army. She later married David after her husband's death and became the mother of Solomon. Later after the birth of Solomon, David's son Adonijah had proclaimed himself king without David knowing it and it was Bathsheba who brought it to David's attention so that the kingdom would not fall into the hands of a man who sacrificed to idols instead of fearing the Lord. So she was obviously very influencial as the king's wife. Solomon also looked to his mother for counsel. When the king's men were fighting and defeating Rabbath and David had stayed behind. He knew that he and Bathsheba had sinned, he was accepting of the discipline he had recieved and he needed to get it right with God. 'Then David got up from the ground. After he washed, put on lotions and changed his clothes, he went into the house of the Lord and worshiped...'{2 Samuel 2:20} We must be accepting of our responsibility in our sin, repent, get it right with the Lord, and get on with the living for Him that we had originally intended before the sin, and don't let it keep us from His side. They were sad for the child's death but God forgave them and blessed them. 'Then David comforted his wife Bathsheba, and he went to her and lay with her. She gave birth to a son, and they named him Solomon. The Lord loved him,' {2 Samuel 2:24} God can still bring good out of our sin and failures if we earnestly turn to Him. |
