'The Lord God said,"It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make him a helper suitable for him." Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was it's name, So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field. But for Adam no suitable helper was found. So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and closed up the place with flesh. Then the Lord God made woman from the rib he had taken from the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said,"This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, for she was taken out of man." For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.' {Genesis 2:18-24} After God had devoloped the world, every body of water, every plant, Adam, and all the animals, he still couldn't find a helper suitable for Adam. So he laid Adam to sleep, took a rib, and made woman. God could have made her from the dust as He did Adam, but He meant this to be a symbol of oneness. We should have the goal to have the commit-ment of oneness, not just a friendship when we marry. Man gave life to woman and woman gave life to the world of people, each role is unique to us and there is no room for competition of sexes, God meant for them to be one. Man and woman were created perfectly for each other and mar-riage was a gift to them from God. Marriage is the reason they leaves their parents and is a public symbol of their commitment or promise to each other. This also symbolizes their trustworthiness for each well-being and prosperity. They become one in threir sexual union reserved for marriage. |
