Michal was the younger daughter of Saul, God's chosen king who had been rejected by God for the evil he had done in God's sight. God had already sent Samuel to anoint His new appointed chosen king. Saul was very jealous of David because of his popularity. Michal was in love with David, and when Saul heard about it he was pleased, thinking he could use Michal to manipulate and keep his finger on David. He sent word to David that the only price he would have to pay to marry the king's daughter ,Michal, was one hundred foreskins of the Philistines thinking that David would be killed in battle. Not only did David live, he brought back two hundred Philistine foreskins! She then became David's first wife. Saul became more and more resentful of David and sent some of his men to go to David's house and watch it and kill him in the mor-ning, but Michal warned him and let him out a window to escape. When Michal was confronted by her father as to why she let David escape, she lied saying that David had threatened her life. Even though she loved David , She didn't have a relationship with God, she had the same type of attitude as her father, so when she saw David dance nude before the Lord, she couldn't understand. She thought it was vulgar and she dispised him in her heart. As a result of this she never had any childern. There was no reason for her to tell her father any more than the truth, she only fueled the hatred that Saul already had for David and made the situation worse. It's always better to tell the truth, even if we will suffer for it, if we don't, we end up digging a deeper hole to find our way out of plus having to keep up with what we told who, and all of that is only the beginning of the problem because then we have to deal with God and since we already know how He feels about this, it wont' be pretty. 'A lying tongue hates those it hurts, and a flattering mouth works ruin.'{Proverbs 26:28} She had lost respect for David and the Lord requires this of wives. When we lose respect for our husband we close out the possiblity of a truly rewarding marriage. We will discuss more about this subject in "What The Bible Says About Marriage". 'However, each one of you(men) also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband' {Ephesians 5:33} |
