      Miriam was the older sister of Moses, and the king decided that the Isrealites were getting too numerous, the order was given that slave masters would be put over the Isrealites and made their lives bitter and oppressed them with hard labor. Then the king ordered the midwives to kill any male children. When Miriam's brother was born, his mother hid him for three months, and then fearing that she could no longer hide him, put him in a small papyrus basket and set him among the reeds in the Nile. Imagine how Miriam felt watching her brother float off, as she followed from a distance she saw the Pharoah's daughter come down to bathe. The baby was crying and Pharoah's daughter drew the baby from the water saying ' This is one of the Hebrew babies.' , and felt sorry for him.
          Miriam then went to Pharoah's daughter and asked,'Would you like me to get one of the Hebrew women to nurse it?', so Miriam went and got her(and Moses') mother and brought her to Pharoah's daughter who told her,'Take this baby and nurse him for me and I will pay you.' She brought him back when he was older and the pharoah's daughter said,'I drew him from the water so I'll name him Moses.
            Later when Miriam and Moses were grown, Miriam was a prophetess as well as having demonstrated able leadership abilities and was a song writer.

          While in the wilderness, after the release of the Isrealites from Egypt, Miriam and her brother Aaron were jealous of Moses for his authority and his relationship with God, and they confronted Moses. She had openly criticized him, without checking her motives. God called them all of them, out of the tent that they were in, and He told them that his relationship with Moses was special, and God struck Miriam with leprosy. Moses pleaded for his sister and God healed her, only banishing her from the camp for seven days.

          Jealousy is ugly and will never be tolerated by God.'A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.' {Proverb 14:30}, 'Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else, for each should carry his own load.' {Galations 6:4,5}.
         She challenged Moses' authority and openly criticised him. 'Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.' {Romans 13:1,2}. 'The entire law is summed up in a single command:"Love your neighbor as yourself." If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.' {Galations 5:14,15}
          Miriam needed to check her motives behind what she was doing. This is something God wants us to keep in mind, checking our motives when we are thinking negative thoughts about others, we should ask God for His perspective and to see people the way He does, as His loved child. 'And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with whole-hearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever.' {1Chronicles 28:9}
