Task 3: Music

Now that the party design and costumes have been taken care of, it is now time to decide on the music that will be playing at the party.  Your task is to choose at least three different songs that fit the theme of the party from Act I Scene 5. First listen to some of the music from Franceo Zefferelli's Romeo and Juliet. Then listen to sample music from Baz Luhrman's Romeo and Juliet.  The song from Desiree is the song used during the party scene.  Click here to find the lyrics to the song. 1.Why is this song appropriate to the scene? 2. What elements of the song affect the tone of the first meeting between Romeo and Juliet? After listening to the sample music think about what works and what doesn't.  Consider the genre of music that you want to use.  Browse through different genres of music here to find the perfect song.

After choosing the three songs look up the lyrics to the songs here, here, or here to see if they really capture the essense of your party.  Make sure that the lyrics are appropriate for the party.

Once you have chosen three songs print the lyrics and link them to the music section of the e-portfolio. Then write a 200-300 word essay describing why you have chosen each song.  Remember to speak about both the instrumentation and the lyrics of the songs.  How will the music complement the party?  Then go on to Task 4.
