Religion is present in every culture and society in the world.  Religion consists of beliefs and behavior concerned with supernatural beings, powers, and forces.  But what exactly is the supernatural?  The supernatural is the extraordinary realm outside the observable world.  This means that the supernatural is non-empirical inexplicable, and accepted on faith.  There are many functions of religion.  Religion can provide comfort and psychological security in times of crisis.  There are four types of religion - shamanic, communal, Olympian, and monotheistic. Magic, another type of religion, is used to influence outcomes over which people have no control over.  Magic consists of supernatural techniques used to accomplish certain aims.  Such techniques include spells, formulas, and incantations.  Religion also includes rituals, which are formal, invariant, earnest acts that require people to join actively in a social collectivity.
