Brotherhood in
today’s undergraduate chapters is surrounded by a
multiplicity of ideas concerning its true nature. Many
scoff at the notion of “Brotherhood” as something out of
date. Close friendships and the mutual fellowship of
deep-seeded common goals are supposedly antiquated.
Experience has illustrated that with the advent of both
larger colleges and universities and the increased cost
of living, the undergraduate fraternity chapters have
had to expand from memberships of 10 and 15 to 40 or 50
in order to remain solvent.
OGW
has refrained from the norm.
The size of our
brotherhood has enabled our chapter to combine
compatible personalities, while other houses serve as
conglomerations of anonymous faces whose only ambition
is to host Saturday night parties for strangers.
Brotherhood is still very much alive in
OGW.
Brotherhood is
comparable to a dream that links every member of the
fraternity to another, each taking and giving as much as
he desires. The choice is left to the member. The
fraternity’s survival depends on it.
One of the greatest
opportunities of a Brotherhood such as this is the
operation of a fraternity. It takes the work and
cooperation of all of the members of a fraternity to
make it successful. The continued progress and longevity
of our chapter is one obvious indication that
Brotherhood is still very much in existence. All of this
and more are the fibers of Brotherhood.
