Survivor: Borneo - The first season in the widely popular television show Survivor (previously known as Pulau Tiga). It premiered on May 31st, 2000 and became a national obsession over the summer. Survivor Borneo introduced such people as Richard Hatch, Susan Hawk, Rudy Boesch, and Colleen Haskell into pop culture and they became household names as people tried to predict which of the initial 16 castaways would walk away with the 1 million dollars and be claimed the sole Survivor. Richard Hatch, who formed Survivor's first alliance (and is an example contestants follow in later seasons), was able to outwit, outplay, and outlast his competition and surprisingly beating Kelly Wiglesworth in the final two to win the first season after his tribe decimated their competition. Contestants from Borneo went on to appear in movies, other television shows, commercials, as commentators, and more. Four contestants (Richard, Rudy, and Jenna) returned to play in the show's eight season, All Stars. Many consider this original version to be about the people and not so much about the challenges and game play and is considered one of the best in the series. The complete season Survivor: Borneo was released on DVD in May 2004.
