The Regeneration Of
Tagaytay City

By Ernie and Dianne Almontero

TAGAYTAY CITY… a city renowned for its invigorating climate making it a perfect getaway spot for people seeking respite from the daily pressures of life in the metropolis. It is a city with rich resources including a vast number of people; people who still have not heard the Word of our Lord.

For the past twenty years the Lord has profusely blessed the ministry in Pacita Faith Bible Fellowship. Armed with the desire to extend the work of God and guided by this year’s church theme, “Enlarge Your Tent…”, the PFBF Evangelistic Team has chosen Tagaytay City as the most befitting place where to start the ministry of evangelism. As specifically stated by our Senior Pastor in the previous Trumpet Sound issue, “It is distinguishable that in the New Testament the Lord chose forerunners for his sacred mission. He taught them all things that they needed to know. Interestingly, He explicitly instructed them that the Organism He established in not just to sit down and do nothing or even maintain their first converts but to bombard hells domain.” It is with these words that we move forward to achieve our mission, TO RENEW THE FAITH OF THE PEOPLE OF TAGAYTAY CITY.

On January 10, 2003, the “forerunners” set out to accomplish their goal, headed by Senior Pastor Arthur Ornias, together with the Chairman of the Board of Deacons, Bro. Romy Bien, Bro. Rudy Martin, Bro. Ernie Almontero, Bro. Jimmy and Sis. Trining Lamitar. After a short prayer, the group started the day by distributing tracts in several commercial areas. A few people were adamant in hearing the Gospel and some, as expected were hesitant. However, by the grace of God, SP04 Amelia Miranda was one of the few who became interested in learning the Word. Pastor Art was able to finalize the schedule of the intended plan which is to administer preaching the Word for seven minutes every Monday morning during the general assembly of all the Tagaytay Police Force.

On the following Friday, January 17, 2003, the volunteer workers continued to distribute tracts in other areas of Tagaytay. They even made a courtesy visit to the Pastor of Tagaytay Christian Church to inform the ongoing work of Pacita Faith Bible Fellowship. He expressed his support and prayers for the success of this mission.

Empowered by God, Pastor Art delivered his first preaching to the Tagaytay Police Force on Monday January 20, 2003. The Word of God was heard. Our Lord was glorified.

Truly, the Lord has once again opened the door of opportunity to expand His territory through Tagaytay City. We are confident that we will emerge victorious over any obstacle that will hinder His work for “if God is with us who can be against us?”

A Disciple With A C.L.A.S.S.
By: Hermie N. Bien

MATTHEW 28:19 SAYS, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” If we are to be disciples of all nations, if we are to be disciples of Jesus Christ, how are we to act?

A “disciple” is a learner who studies the teachings of his master. He is also a follower who does what he learns from his master.

A true disciple imitates his master. What he says and does is a clear reflection of whom he follows. So, as a true disciple we must be a reflection of our Lord and Master, our God and our Savior, Jesus Christ. It follows, therefore, that we must pass on the sayings and teachings of the Great Master.

Discipleship is not an instant thing neither is it a wishy-washy role, nor a now-you-see-it-now-you-don’t performance. Let us come to grip with genuine discipleship and be a disciple with a C-L-A-S-S.

C – Commitment. We have a goal to pursue and that is giving all for Christ. It is not a popularity contest in which we call people’s attention to who or what we are and what we can do. Our goal is not to elevate ourselves nor raise to fame our personality. In fact, a truly committed disciple gets lost in his awesome interest to let people know who Jesus Christ is and what He has done for us.

Mark 8:35 “For whosoever desires to save his life will lose it but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospels will save it.”

L – Loyalty. This means standing up for Jesus and serving others.

Mark 8:38 “If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”

A – Acceptance of Others. Our Lord Jesus Christ showed us an example. He showed the truth to all persons, rich or poor, old or young, strong or weak, master or servant, for in His eyes all persons are equally valuable.

Mark 9:36 – 37 “He took a little child and had him stand among them. Taking him in his arms, he said to them, whosoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.”

S – Service. Jesus Christ said that He did not come to be served but to serve. (Mark 10:45)

Mark 9:35 “If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last and the servant of all.”

S – Sacrifice. If discipleship is service, then it is a sacrifice. When we decide to follow Jesus Christ, we cannot do whatever we please, rather we do as our Master pleases. Submitting to the Master is a sacrifice. It means saying “no” to anyone or anything that opposes Him, which includes your selfish desires.

Mark 8:34 “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.”

Genuine discipleship does not just happen. It is a choice. It is not a mediocre performance but a “CLASS” service and a disciple with a class is

C ommitted
L oyal
A ccepts others
S erves others and
S acrifices all for the love of the Master.

Ask The Pastor:
"On Cremation"

Question: Is it right for a Christian to have his dead body cremated?

ANSWER: CREMATION is putting a dead body under extreme fire until it is turned to ashes.

In Genesis 4:9 – 10, the Lord indicted Cain for killing Abel and said, “I heard the voice of Abel which cries out of the ground.” In Genesis 23:3 – 4, Abraham asked for a burial site. In the New Testament, Lazarus was buried in a tomb. Jesus Christ, Himself, was entombed. Burial then, was the traditional preference.

There were however, instances in the Bible of bodies turned to ashes. Among them were the bodies of Jonathan, and his father, Saul.

Dust is defined as “what is left of a dead body after decay.” Ashes of a burned body will soon decay and eventually become dust. Buried or cremated, ash or dust is not an issue.

Clearly, the Bible says that one day the Lord will change us. 1 Corinthians 15:52 “…for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.”

EDITOR'S CORNER (Hermie Bien)

YEAR 2003… In this fast-paced world how can one make the best of 365 days? The way one lives this year will surely be determined by his priorities. What does he value? How will his values affect him and the people in his life? One’s life is related to his decisions. What impact will his decisions make in his life and in others’?

Yes, what and how each one of us will do with our lives in this short period is determined by the set of priorities we have and the decisions that we will make. Colossians 3:23, “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.” And Philippians 4:8, “…whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy – meditate on these things.”

PFCS Christmas Cantata
PACITA FAITH Christian School held a Christmas Cantata entitled “Psalty’s Christmas Calamity” last December 15 at the PFBF Worship Hall. The Cantata was really a success.

But Psalty’s adventure didn’t end there. Yearly, the local government of San Pedro asks schools within the municipality to do a special presentation at the town plaza. And so, in the evening of December 18, they had a repeat performance for the Municipality of San Pedro at the San Pedro Town (Open) Plaza.

San Pedro, during the holiday seasons, is very busy and crowded. By God’s grace, there were hundreds of people who were able to see it and hear God’s message through the songs.

And here’s a message in one of the songs: “It’s not by might, nor by pow’r, but by My Spirit, saith the Lord.”

In the midst of the Christmas rush, Christmas lists, and Christmas gifts, it’s not by our might of gift-giving, nor by the power of our pesos that we made Christmas truly meaningful – it is only by the Spirit of the Lord who gave us His Son, Jesus Christ, the true Reason of the season.

Do You Really Know Your Partner?
(The First-Ever Couples' Day Out)

THE DATE was 25th of February, it was the day the WOMISSO and Laymen held their one-day couple’s fellowship at the Girl Scouts of the Philippines Training Center in Tagaytay City.

Laymen
The event was highlighted with activities such as games, and group discussion and sharing by the couples and an inspirational message delivered by Pastor Ed Gonzales.

The said event started as early as 6:30 am, as the group traveled to Tagaytay. When we arrived we were greeted warmly by the Head of the aforementioned Center and offered their first class training hall as venue for the group’s activities. Sis. Vilma Martin, president of the WOMISSO, formally opened the program with her opening salvo while Sis. Neneng Esogon acted as the master of ceremonies.

Mr. and Mrs. Romy Bien, on the other hand, engaged the party when they openly discussed the ups and downs of their 28 years of togetherness. They shared healthy pointers on how to keep the relationship sacred as well as the 5 stages of marriage a couple must undergo and how they could overcome the difficulties they may experience along the way. Moreover, the heart-moving testimony of Mr. and Mrs. Jun Balod was deeply inspirational as they willingly disclosed experiences in their relationship. Truly, what they shared was enlightening and meaningful.

On a lighter side, the games prepared by Sis. Vilma Martin and Sis. Leonore Vivo brought the house down. The game “Knowing Me is Knowing You” was very amusing and informative as it was a test to know germane details about one’s partner and their life. Yours truly and Sis. Ann scored the most for this particular contest. In another activity, the couples were requested to compare their partner to an object or any item that would best describe their partner and then later on draw it on a piece of paper. Such game not only featured the artistic genius of the group but also enabled everyone to know more about each other through their illustrations and interpretations. For the Team Building game, the mothers proved once more that they are highly organized than the fathers.

The WOMISSO serenaded the Laymen with their own rendition of “Because He Lives”, in preparation for their upcoming performance in the Easter concert (that is if they will pass the auditions).

Pastor Ed Gonzales engaged the group with his rousing message about relationships, which emphasized on love, respect, and trust between the couple. He cited numerous situational examples that were engaging and informative. Furthermore, despite the short notice, I was delegated to deliver a short inspirational talk about marriage and relationship.

The first couple’s outing this year offered various experiences to every couple. It was truly a memorable and edifying event. This affair not only highlighted the relationship between husbands and wives but also featured how to deal with brothers and sisters in Christ.

Overall, the Lord has indeed showered us with so much blessing that day to make the fellowship successful. The next Couple’s Day Out is tentatively scheduled on May, 2003 at GSP, Baguio City.

Team Building Program
By: Vilma M. Martin
WOMISSO @ GSP, Tagaytay
INSPIRED BY the Pastor’s challenge to revitalize what seems to be a relaxed setting surrounding the church, the WOMISSO went to Los Baños, Laguna last February 15 for a team building exercise and what a day it turned out to be. The participants numbered seventeen excluding four laymen who unselfishly transported the ladies to the venue. The pool was refreshingly warm and God’s presence was felt amidst the beauty of the environment.

We were treated with inspiring testimonies of mothers being soldiers of Christ. The presence of a grandmother whose age never hindered here from setting aside time for the Lord’s work encouraged us to go on serving God despite the odds. The basic concepts of team building more than instilled in us the value of respect, trust, obedience and love towards one another. Respect for individual differences, trust for leaders, obedience for the attainment of a common goal and love for God’s work are results of the practical application of the exercise.

As if it was not enough, the Couple’s had a day out on February 25. Thanks to President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo for declaring the day a non-working holiday. Indeed it was a holiday of a day of celebration not only for the 12 couples and two widows but also to the Young People and Young Adults who took turns spoiling a boy in the church. The couples outwitted each other in a game identifying whether the description called for fits her husband of his wife. Bro. Ernie and Sis. Ann Almontero who have just celebrated their silver wedding anniversary won the game “Knowing Me is Knowing You”.

Pastor Ed Gonzales delivered his message on “Relationship” which is the church theme for the month. In the afternoon, an exercise in team building resulted in the importance of planning, leading, following instructions and the joy of working together for a common objective. Drawing a vision for the church in the next five years capped the day’s activities, putting emphasis on the power of prayer.

SMILE AND LAUGH
By: Luz M. Enriquez

LAUGHING IS a natural stress reliever. It is good for the heart, for the lungs, for the stomach and for other organs of the body.

On the average, pre-schoolers laugh up to 450 times a day. In contrast, adults laugh only 15 times a day.

Laughter is a precious gift of God. But many have become too serious in life to laugh.

One Christian writer said, “A joyful Christian living is more on how we love other people; how we care for ourselves and how well we honor our God.” Another said, “For I shall pass this way but once, whatever good I can to my fellow, let me do it now.”

Joy and laughter; love and kindness; forgiveness and peace; have something to do with life and living. It means learning from the bitter past but not dwelling in it. It also means planning for the future but not living in dreams. Unfortunately, many of us are living and chasing the wrong priorities in life and end up anxious, afraid or depressed, if not discouraged.

Let us be reminded of Joshua 1:9 which says, “Be strong and be courageous. Do not be terrified, do not be discouraged for the Lord God will be with you wherever you go.” Yes, there is a living and loving God to whom we can lift up all our anxious cares, all our fears, and our troubled thoughts. Simply because HE CARES. These trying times, problems and depressions are like virus hitting people here and there. But God has promised. We can GET OUT of it. Life is God’s gift for us to enjoy. And we can enjoy it if we choose to.

This message from an unknown author will inspire us to smile, laugh and enjoy life.

Do not undermine your worth by comparing yourself with others. It is because we are different from each other that each of us is special.
Do not set your goals by what other people deem important. Only you know what is best for you. (Your Christian goals – Editor)
Do not take for granted the things nearest to your heart. Cling to them as you would your life, for without them life is meaningless. (Your Christian values – Editor)
Do not let your years slip through your fingers by living in the past, nor in the future. But living your life one day at a time and live all the days of your life.
Do not give up when you still have something to give. Nothing is really over until the moment you stop trying.
Do not be afraid to encounter risk. It is by taking chances that we learn how to be brave.
Do not shut love out of your life by saying it is impossible to find. The quickest way to receive love is to give love; the fastest way to lose love is to hold it too tightly.
Do not dismiss your dreams. To be without dreams is to be without hope; to be without hope is to be without purpose.
Do not run through life so fast that you forget not only where you have been, but also where you are going. Life is not a race, but a journey to be savored each step of the way.

Lastly, my brothers and sisters, may the birth of Jesus Christ remind us of the GREAT LOVE our Father has for us. Despite our unfaithfulness, He sent His Son and made us reconciled with Him through the cross. Isn’t this enough reason to REJOICE? To smile? To laugh?

What Does God Have To Say About It?
By: Leonore H. Vivo

CURIOUS ABOUT the “Harry Potter” fad, my son, Noel told me that he wanted to see a Harry Potter movie. So, one weekend, we rented and viewed a VCD of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”. The movie glorified witchcraft and wizardry, sorcery, divination, witchcraft spells, witchcraft curses, living in the 4th dimension, speaking to the dead, and demon possession. The Sorcerer’s stone is the fifth and final stage in the occult drive to achieve eternal life. The author, J.K. Rowling, explains that the stone will transform any metal into pure gold. It produces the Elixir of Life, which makes the drinker immortal.

“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil: that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter.” (Isaiah 5:20) Truly, from a Christian perspective, the movie made evil, good, the darkness, light and the bitter, sweet.

J.K. Rowling, a woman born in 1966 has captivated the world in the year 2000 with four books known as the “Harry Potter Series”.

These books are orientational and instructional manuals of witchcraft woven into the format of entertainment. They teach witchcraft and are the training manuals for the occult. Untold millions of young people are being taught to think, speak, dress, and act like witches by filling their heads with the contents of these books. Children obsessed with the Harry Potter books have left television and video games to read these witchcraft manuals. The first book of the series entitled the “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”, finds the orphan, Harry Potter embarking into a new realm when he is taken to “Hogwart’s School of Witchcraft and Wizardry”. At this occult school, Harry Potter learns how to obtain and use witchcraft equipment. Harry also learns a new vocabulary, including words such as “Azkaban”, “Circe”, “Draco”, “Erised”, “Hermes”, and “Slytherin”, all of which are names of real demons. These are not characters of fiction! How serious is this? By reading the materials and viewing the movies, many millions of young people are learning how to work with demon spirits. They are getting to know them by name.

Vast number of children professing to be Christians are also filling their hearts and minds with witchcraft and wizardry, while willingly ignorant parents look the other way. The titles should be warning enough to make us realize how satanic and anti-Christ these are. The aforementioned title of the series: “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”, “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets”, “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” and “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” are real give aways. Nothing could be more serious than this, Harry Potter Series are pure witchcraft and are of the devil!

What does God have to say about books such as the Harry Potter series? “And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds. Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.” (Acts 19:18 – 20)

As parents, we are accountable to God if we allow our children to read witchcraft books and watch witchcraft films. We must discourage our children from reading and watching Harry Potter series and other books and films on witchcraft, sorcery and the like. We must destroy books, CD’s, tapes of this kind for only then can the Word of God mightily prevail in our lives and in our children’s lives.

ADDITIONAL REPORT:

KIND WORDS FOR “HARRY” FROM THE VATICAN
(Gathered from various Internet news. Source: Yahoo!™)

DURING A FEBRUARY 2, 2003 news conference for a document on the New Age movement called “Jesus Christ the Bearer of the Water of Life: A Christian Reflection on the ‘New Age’”, NCR asked Vatican officials to weigh in on the controversy surrounding Harry Potter. Fr. Peter Fleetwood, an Englishman who is a former official of the Pontifical Council for Culture, responded. Fleetwood is also the secretariat of the Council of European Episcopal Conferences.
“No one in this room grew up without images of magicians, witches, spirits and angels,” Fleetwood said. “These are not bad things, and I certainly don’t think Harry Potter is flying some kind of anti-Christian banner.
“As far as I can tell, the chief concern of the author is to help children to understand the conflict between good and evil. This seems very clear.
“The author, J.K. Rowling, is a Christian. She may not be practicing in the way a priest might like, but she is a Christian by conviction in her way of living and in her writing. I don’t see the least problem in the Harry Potter films,” Fleetwood said.

+==@==+

The positive Vatican assessment was not the first kind word from Catholic officialdom on Harry Potter. The U.S. bishops’ review of the first film was equally enthusiastic.
“Parents concerned about the film’s sorcery elements should know that it is unlikely to pose any threat to Catholic beliefs,” the bishops’ reviewer wrote. “ Harry Potter is so obviously innocuous fantasy that its fiction is easily distinguishable from real life. Harry uses his ‘magical powers’ for good to fight evil.”

A Matter Of Choice
By: Kristine Ann Bien

BACK IN MY high school days, I hastily browsed a semi-annual issue of the “Daily Bread” and tried to pick a good topic that would suit my fellow youngsters. I had no idea what topic would be, until for no apparent reason, I selected “Idols in Disguise”. I was struck by its words that I decided: this is the topic I am going to discuss.

A year has passed since I have shared this to the class, but until now, the Holy Spirit still convicts me of idolatry. Well, I know what some of your are thinking. “What?! K-Ann’s worshipping the Golden Buddha?!” Tell you what, the Bible tells us that worshipping an idol is not the only way we commit idolatry. The magazines we collect every month, those designer clothes we wear, the anime we never miss to watch, the songs of our favorite artists that we memorize word per word, or that poster of an artist we never take our eyes off are no different from that Golden Buddha. If these stuffs take the place of God in our hearts, then I can assure you that we are already committing the sin of idolatry. (“Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which are idolatry.” Colossians 3:5). Idolatry is anything or anyone that takes the place of God. (“This is what the Lord says… I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God.” Isaiah 44:6b).

Idols don’t just appear in the form of material things, I can also emerge in the form of people or activities. An example is a person whom we excessively admire (i.e., a crush) that can lead to obsession. An even more absurd form of idolatry is the use of the church just to maintain a good reputation.

There are several other forms of idolatry. Just remember that whatever we indulge ourselves with, analyze first if it will eventually rob us of our focus to God. If it does, then we better eliminate it as early as possible before it gets so hard to get rid of. (“Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.” 1 John 5:21)

I know it’s hard to accept that our “seem-to-be-normal” life is full of idols. But still, IDOL WORSHIP IS A MATTER OF CHOICE.

“SUGAT NG IGLESIA”
Ni: Pastor Randolph Dela Cruz

Ano itong nangyayari sa mga Iglesia?
Totoong pagmamahal tila baga’s nawawala.
Alitan dito, tampuhan doon,
Lalong umiigting masasamang layon.

Wag ipikit ang puso’t mga mata
Upang masilayan mga nangyayari sa Iglesia,
Para itong maliit na baga,
Pag-inihipan, lumalaki’t nagdudulot ng pinsala.

Maraming kapatiran nasasaktan, umiiyak,

Tayo’y tinubos at kanyang pinag-isa.
Bakit pa tayo nagtatalo, watak-watak at kanya-kanya?

Puso’y pagbuklurin at tayo’y magkaisa!!!
