From the Office of our Awards Coordinators: 1. What is an Award? While Scouts are having fun and learning new skills, they can also earn Sport and Academic Belt Loops and Pins. Each Sport and Academic subject has a special booklet that teaches Scouts all about it (available at the Boy Scout Store). There are 29 subjects to choose from. 2. How often can a Scout earn a belt loop or pin? Each Belt Loop or Pin can be earned once every year. For example a Cub Scout may earn only one Swimming Belt Loop or Math Belt Loop when he is a Wolf. He can earn them again when he is a Bear. 3. How can our Den effectively track Awards and progress through the Rank? Try using these forms developed by other Packs. Cub Scout Achievement Trackers 4. How does a Scout receive his Award? Designate an Awards Coordinator for each Den. After your son has completed the requirements for his Belt Loop or Pin, inform the Den Awards Coordinator who in turn will email or call the awards achieved by all the boys in your Den to the Pack Awards Coodinator. Your scout will then receive the award at the following Pack Meeting. 5. What happens if a Scout misses a Pack Meeting? What happens if the BSA service center is out of stock on some items? The award will be given to his Den Leader or saved for the next Pack Meeting. Awards that are out of stock will be announced at the Pack Meeting and given to the the Den Leader when stock becomes available. 6. By what date are Awards to be called in? The Den Awards Coordinator must call in all awards by the Friday prior to the Pack meeting. Awards called in after that day will be given the following month. 7. What do we do when a Den or Scout advances from one Rank to another? When Scouts are advancing a rank, the Den Awards Coordinator must inform the Pack Awards Coordinator so that we are able to plan a small ceremony to congratulate the Scouts. If the entire Den is not advancing at the same time, please provide the names of each Scout that will be advancing a rank.
