"... This is not a dictionary of terms and definitions.  It is a guide to the unfolding chain of symbols and references that human beings have observed between themselves and an ever-flowing understanding of divinity..."

"A fascinating journey back in time, that reveals to us the origins of some of our most dearly held beliefs... Finally, an explanation about why the calendar of our daily lives possesses such uneven divisions.

Recommended reading for anyone interested in the evolution of our mythology and folklore."

By one of those happy coincidences, I met  Archer Luxley in an online chatroom.  After a long talk about Paganism and beliefs, he very kindly sent me a copy of his latest book in exchange for some of my work.

At the time of writing this, I'm about 1/3 through the book, and it is certainly living up to my expectations.

Written in two halves, the first section deals with the dawning of religious/magical beliefs while the second half looks at how Christianity evolved from the Persian god Mithra.

As this book is not generally available over here in the UK, Archer suggested that I could offer them on this site.  It is a paperback, 356 pages.
"The book explores possibilities for the evolution of Pagan thought largely to lay the basis for the contrast with the "New Religion" presented in the Section II. The Persian, good/evil duality virtually replaced the old male/female duality and the world changed drastically as a result.  This shift, this displacement of the one model of worship for the other, is also the point at which the feminine aspect of creation was virtually eliminated, the end of the so called Matriarchal Age and the beginning of the exclusively Patriarchal Age."

Okay, sales pitch over.  :)

Another book that has impressed me, despite not being a Druid myself, is "Druid Priestess" by Emma Restall Orr.

Though not an actual guide book, Emma explains the main aspects of her beliefs and some of the deeper concepts underlying Druidry today..

It is a very powerful book, detailing the author's personal journey through a full twelve-month, and has some very powerful pathworkings.  Much of the book is sheer poetry, and is so well crafted that the reader almost lives the roller coaster of emotions throughout the book, from complete unadulterated joy, to total despair and anger at the world, to her love of her partner, to the humour of ridiculous situations.
