Chapter 21 |
(Christie’s View) I could only hope Howie was a man of his word. We made a deal & I hope he keeps it because he needs sleep since he drove all of last night. I decided to keep my end of the bargain & try to sleep. I was successful. When I woke up we were entering a large city. Howie pulled into the parking lot of one of the malls & we went inside. I saw a lot of very nice cloths. I tried them on & I really liked them. Howie bought them for me & bought clothing for Kara & himself. We took our purchases out to the car & went back inside. We ate a very quick lunch & looked around some more. Howie took Kara into a toy store. I walked over to a jewelry case & looked inside. I saw one of the most beautiful necklaces in the world. It was a heart that had small diamonds going around the border. I had never owned any really nice jewelry so; I really wanted the necklace. I didn’t notice Howie & Kara come up behind me. Howie pointed to the necklace I wanted. “That’s very pretty,” he said. “Yeah, I never really owned any nice jewelry, because my parents could afford it. All I have is this,” I said. I pulled out a small blue box from under my jacket. I opened it to reveal a small cross my mother had given to me. It was the only possession I had. “Then, I’ll buy this for you.” “No Howie, I couldn’t ask for this I was just wondering how it would look on me.” Then Kara spoke up “Mommy can you take me to that store over there I want to look around,” I looked over at the pet store she wanted to go into. I agreed to walk her in. Howie stayed outside & looked at the necklace. I should have let him buy it for me I thought. |
