General About Gay Nice

Nice is not a classical gay destination in Europe and if you are looking for a gay place at every corner, this is not the right town for you. But more and more gays from all over the world choose Nice for the variety of the city and surroundings. Nice is now the second most visited city for gays, after Paris of course and with more than 35 gay-otlets there is surely a place for you.

There is a bit for everyone. First of all there are the beaches. Nice has one gay beach (Coco beach) and one gay-friendly beach (Castel plage) and another two gay beaches are just outside town. I personally prefer the beach at 'Eze' which can be reached by bus or car. With the sun shining all year round all four beaches are always busy especially on weekends. But the town has also a lot to offer. Beautiful buildings throughout the whole city and lots of museums with the 'Musée Matisse' as the most famous one. Shopping is also very pleasant. You will find everything from the big department store "Galeries Lafayette" to the cheap T-shirt shop, typical 'provence'shop or the high class 'Yves Saint Laurent,Cartier,Louis Vuitton' and many, many others. The parks and gardens are also a must to see and what about the 'Russian Church'. The biggest one outside Russia. For a moment you would think you're on the red square in Moscow.

The old part of the town is very typical and looks like an Italian village. In the mornings it's very lively with the famous flower market which is very colourful. And in the evening this is the place where you will find little restaurants, bars and discos in one of the narrow streets. Don't forget to go up to the 'Château' The view is spectacular on a clear day you can see from Saint Tropez on one side to Italy on the other side.

And what about the 'Promenade des Anglais'. The main street on the seafront, 6km of palmtrees and other exotic plants, the famous 'Negresco Hotel' and the sea of course. The Promenade becomes very cruisy after midnight at 'Parking Ferber'.

And for those who have still some energy left after this, there is a good gay life in Nice that you will love. Everything from saunas to restaurants, bars and discos.

And while in Nice don't forget to see all the typical villages which are just half an hour away by bus or train. There is obviously Monaco/Monte Carlo but also Eze Village, Antibes, Villefranche sur Mer (10 min), Saint Paul de Vence, Menton and many others. Ask for a brochure at the tourist office which is particulary helpful in Nice. There is one at the Airport (terminal 1), one on 5 Promenade des Anglais and one at the train station.

The gay beaches are not always easy to find. At the Hotel Meyerbeer Beach they have an excellent map which you can have free (even if you're not a guest of the hotel, just ask you will see how friendly they are with any kind of gay info)

If you have a minute, take a look at some pictures of Nice

Here, I give you an idea of what is going on these days.

Summer is upon us and you can feel the heat in the air with temperatures around the eighties. So its hot outside and the guys are hot too. From the gay beaches to the discos ending up in one of the numerous sex clubs and bars, there is something for everyone. You may just want to stroll along the beach and if you want to spend a day sunning yourself then there are a couple of gay beaches at EZE (a nudist beach)and in Nice itself you have the CASTEL plage at the bottom of the castle hill which is the most "branche". If you do not mind rocks there is also COCO beach just past the port or in the city the jetee du port at one end gets quite a lot of gays who take everything off!!!Otherwise relax at the cafés and get ready for the gay night life.

The main attraction over the past couple of years has been the opening of Le Klub, the biggest gay disco on the French Riviera. They get all the trendiest dj's from Paris and Ibiza and the place is just as good as the discos in Miami, London or New York.. There is also the Kf's bis, a bar/restaurant in a Barcelona kind of style. Another recent opening is the restaurant "Café Borghese" on Rue Fodéré behind the port. Magnificent inside owned by the cheerful Jacques who will welcome you with open arms.He used to own the Rusca so he knows everything about the gay scene in Nice. More and more gays are frequenting the establishment. He has also taken over what used to be the Castro bar , that he has renamed The Eagle, a cruising bar with back room facilities. Whether you just want a drink or something else.... its the place to be. Another nice place to open recently is the lounge bar The Flag at 6 Rue Eugene Emmanuel. Another gay friendly bar is "Keep in Touch" run by a couple of lesbians one of whom is Danish. They are good fun and a lot of gay guys frequent the place. You can also eat some very good salads with hot food on top.Its right oposite the Klub. There is still Cote Marais run by Laurent & Laurent and is to be found Rue Pontin. A good 3 course slap up meal for just 22 euros and they throw in the aperitif as well.A little bit further up on the port there is now The Nautique. A lot of the waiters are gay and good looking too.Although not specifically gay it does attract a gay clientele as it is situated right on the port with great views and quite honestly good value for money. A nice evening is to start off either at Cote Marais or the Café Borghese, go into the 6 for a drink and listen to the singers and finish off at The Eagle for a drink or a cruise. The naked parties at the Castro take place the first sunday of every month and the underwear parties are the third sunday of the month - and the leather evenings are the last sunday of the month. THE BLOCK to be found on Rue Jules Gilly, just off the Cours Saleya, the flower market is now open and a real sex bar. They have naked evenings (usually the last friday of the month)underwear parties, hard evenings , and free internet. .You can log into this site and click on it for more info.

As you can see, plenty of reasons to enjoy Nice. And the Blue Beach opposite the Negressco to have a salad at midday is always nice, its the one I go to most and on the Cours Saleya there is the Bar de la Civette which gets a few gays at aperitif time. The Eagle bar is becoming more and more popular as is The Block, so there really is something for everyone. Have a great time and dont forget to protect all your parts from the hot Mediterranean sun!!!

Love, Peejeepee
