I entered the Army on June 6th, 1990. I flew from IL. to Ft Jackson, SC , my place of basic training and Advanced Individual Training (AIT). I remained at Ft Jackson until October 5th, 1990 at which time I was assigned to my first and ,later of be found out, only station. I was selected for a job in the Pentagon handling Military Administration.

My first job with the unit was handling officer records. This included ensuring all paperwork was present and current. The job allowed me to meet a lot of the "Big Brass" of the Army. Apparently the office was pleased with my work because they allowed my next job to be that of handling the General Officer (GO) records. This is when the fun set in. It was during the 4 months I handled the GO records the I met the Secretary of the Army; Mr.Carl Vouno, the Under Secretary of the Army; Mr. Shannon, The Administrative Assistant to the Secretary of the Army, Mr. Hamilton. I also met the Chief of Staff, Army, The Sergeant Major of the Army, and most of the other leaders the U. S. Army.

After working with the General Officers, I was placed in charge of the Officer Promotion Section. My main responsibility was to notify the officers of upcoming boards. Again, this provided a lot of interface with the "big brass".

Continuing my career, I notice that the personnel records where I worked were not up to "par" and requested to be place in charge of the Quaility Assurance Section. Actually, This section did not exisit, so I created it. It was many months of hard work with 5 other personnel but we reach our goal.

The Chief of the Personnel Office like what he saw so he moved me to the In / Outprocessing Section. I was responsible for the smooth movement of personnel in and out of the units we handled. Again, this was fun because of the people I got to meet.

About 6 months later, the person in charge of the computer systems left, and the command asked if I would like to take over. I had been working on the computer system here and there anyhow so I said sure. Well, one thing leads to another, and the next thing I knew I was handling a file server and 75 user in direct support of the Headquarters, Department of the Army. This was probably the most challenging of all the jobs I held. However, it did get me to where I am today.

I left the Army in December of 1996, but still handle the Army Computer systems in a Civilian status.
