Parent/Teacher Conferences Oct. 27-28, 2004 | |||||||||||
Dear Parents, Welcome to Parent/Teacher Conferences. Your child will give you a quick tour of their classroom as this meeting also functions as our Open House. I would like to take this time to remind you of a few important points for the year. We are Division 3. Our gym days are Tuesday and Wednesday, computer lab is on Thursday and our our library day for book exchange is Monday. Please help your child remember to bring his/her books back on this day, as overdue notices will be sent out this year. The foundation of most of the arithmetic skills taught in Grade 3 is a good understanding and quick recall of the basic arithemetic facts. From now until the end of December your child should be spending a few minutes at home each day studying addition and subtraction facts. Mini flashcards will be sent home most Mondays and a speed drill will be held most Fridays. The substraction facts will be focussed on, as these seem to be more difficult to remember. On the other hand, the foundation of most of the arithmetic skills taught in Grade 4 is a mastery and quick recall of multiplication, number concepts, measurement and patterns. From now until the end of December you Grade 4 child should be spending a few minutes at home each day studying multiplication and division facts. Similarly, mini flashcards will be sent home most Mondays and a speed drill will be held most Fridays. Each Monday your child will bring home a spelling list to study. These words will be based on phonetic concepts to help the children learn to recognize patterns in the English language. The lists will be enriched with words drawn from classroom themes and seasonal activities. A Spelling Test will be given every Friday. During September and October I have been working to establish classroom routines and expectations. I have been trying hard to promote self-esteem as well as mutual respect for members of the classroom. As a form of personal planning and home/school communication the students in Division 3 will use Student Planners. Please sing or initial the book every evening and help your child to remember to bring it to school the next day. Also, please don't hesitate to leave notes for me in the book as I check them every morning. (The planner won't be sent home on Friday-in years past I found that many of them don't seem to make it back Monday morning!) Thank you for coming to visit our classroom. Please feel free to contact me troughout the year with any concerns you may have. I look forward to a busy and exciting year with your child. Mr. Kamaszewski (See Page 3 for Parent-Teacher Timetable) |
