Sawbu and his new Pack |

Sawbu - Happy Boo The smile that greeted us every single day, and which we miss |
Sawbu Ward was the loving companion to Joseph T. & Rita M. Ward and brother to Kiva Ward. Sawbu was born on December 19, 1992. He was the oldest in a litter of nine whelped by Seltzer Ward a 10 year old Wolf-hybrid. His father was Cody, a 3 year old Wolf-hybrid. Sawbu was special from day one and as soon as he was able, he waddled to the front of the whelping pen and put his front paws on the board as if to say, "Look at me, I'm special!" We intended to keep two of the litter and when we noticed Sawbu had an extra toe on his hind legs, a throwback trait to the wolf that was lost 25,000 years ago, and sort of how people are losing the little toe. His name is Vietnamese for "six digits" (six toes), and he was dominant wolf in a number of wolf traits. He weighed 105 pounds and had beautiful black, white and butterscotch fur typical of Timber wolves. The other cub we kept from the litter, Kiva, has the same fur colorings and is about half his size and is still with us. They both had golden brown eyes. Sawbu had a rough life physically from age six weeks when his testicles failed to drop and he had to have extensive surgery to find them. One was found in his stomach cavity and the other was found behind a kidney. Later at age nine years his hip dysphasia became so severe, to keep from putting him down, we had to have both hips replaced. The surgery and long convalescence was hard on all of us, but he recovered fully and was virtually pain free in the hips and able to run and play for the remaining two years of his life. Sawbu loved to work for his keep and he was especially proud of his ability to fetch the paper and mail, and guard the house or car. He also loved going bye-bye, on walks, and most of all he loved to play boogedy with his favorite toy, Porky. Sawbu was in love with life and he dearly loved Joe Ward, his favorite Alpha in our little pack of two people (Alphas Joe & Rita) and two hybrids, his sister Kiva and himself. He would guard the pack with his life. He was exceptionally intelligent and talked to the other pack members as though we were all equals. He was very affectionate, kissed Joe all the time, and would lean in for a hug. He liked to do tricks such as: jump the stick, fetch Porky, roll over, sit, stay, paw, wait, come, down and don't eat the nummie until he was told "okay". His wolf coat was always clean and he always smelled sweet like a baby. He was his mother's favorite and he loved her so much that, when she died in 1995, we nearly lost him when he fell into melancholia for months afterward. Although life dealt Sawbu some bad hands, he was a happy guy and he always had a smile for the other pack members. When the pain of arthritis in his ribs and kidney failure brought him to the end, he was at home and with the pack he so dearly loved. In his final seconds, he cried a single tear for the sorrow of leaving the pack, and we hope for the release from the suffering that had taken over his final days. The pack will forever miss his loving, cheerful ways. >From time to time, be both catch sight of him in the corner of an eye, as we do his mother, Seltzer. Call it wishful thinking, if you have to, but we take comfort in knowing that we will forever be pack-mates. In his loving memory we dedicate this web page Sawbu Ward, 1992-2002 |

Wolf Spirit The spirit of the wolf, speaks To my soul, in dreams and meditations, he tells me of the beauty of nature, the trees, rivers, and mountains, and how to listen to them, and their wisdom. My beautiful wolf, with the eyes Of glowing amber, looks into my, heart and soul, with a wisdom known only to the Gods, and he sees that in spirit he and I are one. ~ JadeWolf MariVan-Katwyk ~ |
The Spirit Of Love There are souls who touch our life if only for a moment. Like an angel arriving just in time. You see their goodness shinning from within. They are truly gentle loving spirits, with love for all mankind. They give freely expecting nothing in return, for this alone brings them joy. To see someone smile and laugh even for a little while. Some can see what others cant because they too have been touched sometime in their live's by this loving gentle spirit. The spirit of love. ~ Candy Fort ~ |
A Brilliant Rainbow High on whispered wings I fly, a radiant star, I light the sky. Toward the sun I soar so free, a brilliant rainbow follows me. I pulsate through your very soul and in my paws your heart I hold. The day will come when you'll fly too, I'll be here then to welcome you. Until the time we meet again I won't journey far my friend. For in your love I live so free, a brilliant rainbow guiding me. ~ Author Terri Onorato ~ |
